I was thinking about putting a hitch to carry our bikes on our leased Bolt. It looks like you have to trim the bumper so the hitch would have to stay with the car at return. My thinking is that this is an improvement like window tint for example and they would not mind. Has anyone dealt with returning the car with a hitch installed?

Instead of cutting and removing the small section of plastic bumper cover, just make two vertical cuts and fold it up as a flap. Install the hitch as normal.

When the lease ends remove the hitch and bend the lower plastic bumper cover back down into place.

I know of two 2017 Bolts the that were lease returned without issue this way.

Good luck...

My plan is to remove the Draw-Tite hitch when my lease is up this coming March. I'll offer the hitch free to anyone willing to trade their uncut lower bumper for my trimmed one.

If no one bites I'll put on a new lower bumper before I return the car and just sell the hitch. It's worth the cost to me for having the ability to tow my Waverunner for the past 3 years.
