Twice now I have tried to pop the hood on my 2019 Bolt, I've done the release inside the car, but when I feel under the hood for the release I can't find anything. Is there some trick or am I just inept?

the hood latch is there. just a little different as you really got to fish with your fingers. and it will flex such that it will be bending instead of releasing. without running to the garage, if I recall correctly, it's a side movement. one way being correct. don't force it.

edit: manual has a picture with the side direction being to the right for release.

Go to the front of the vehicle and locate the secondary release lever under the front center of the hood. Push the secondary hood release lever to the right to disengage

I'm used to feel upwards close to the hood but the lever is lower, put the palm of your hand towards the ground.

Yes, in the very center of the hood; I was in the same boat last week, fumbling for the latch when needing to perform the required professional periodic maintenance on the Bolt: Adding windshield wiper fluid.

Get a good light & look under the center of the hood while a helper holds it as far up as it will go. You will see the safety latch, & how it works.
It doesn’t move in the same plane as most vehicles. Once you see it, it will be obvious, seeing is worth a 1000 words.

Also, when you do find it, you might want to push down ever so slightly on the hood so there is no tension on the latch as you try to release it.
