This question is for Chevy sales people or others with "inside information" regarding the ordering system used by dealerships.

I live in a state that does not require front license plates. Why would I want the hideous front plate mount on my design award-winning Bolt EV? Isn't there some toggle on an ordering screen to tell the Lake Orion factory NOT to rivet install the mounting bracket? I've learned that the factory installs the bracket by default...UNLESS instructed otherwise by qualifying dealerships in states without the front plate requirement.

I assumed my dealership would have known to order the car without this unnecessary hardware. Instead, a new customer spending good money for this vehicle has the hassle of removing the bracket and plugging the four holes left behind. Bummer.

Interesting. My 2017 came without one. When I ordered it, there was nothing special that I did. My state doesn't require it.

I dont think they come with those installed from the factory. I suspect the dealership puts them on in states that require it.

I bought a 2017 from a dealer in MI, where I live. Front plate bracket NOT installed;I had to buy it and install it myself for my NRA plate. Bought the 2020 from a dealer in OH, requested front plate bracket at sales time. It was included, but not installed, I had to DIY.

WA does require front plates, but our 2017 was delivered without one. If it were just me, I'd have run without it, but my wife worries, so the salesman pulled a battery powered screw gun out of the desk drawer and zipped it on there.

Yes, dealers normally drill the bumper to put the plate on. I took my front plate off and on a black car you cant even see the holes unless you are up close.

Seeing as how the laws differ between the states, It would be reasonable to assume that the factory doesn't install the bracket by default if the car is destined for the US market. On the other hand, I wager that the ones that get to be shipped to Korea have them installed from the get-go since the front license plate is mandatory.

Very helpful posts all, thank you. Chevy Concierge contacted me saying, “Vehicles are shipped from the factory without front plates, which are installed by the dealer.”
So, the conclusion in my case is that my salesperson wasn’t honest with me. Had he just paid attention to his customer over 2.5 months—the time we waited for the new production year to be manufactured—he would have known I wouldn’t have wanted holes drilled in the car to mount a part not needed in our state.
Oh, but he reminded me to give him high scores in the survey. The problem with people is they think everyone else is as dumb as they are.
