The stop/go traffic regens the battery. I thought this was well known?
do you even know what the term "Physics" means? Have you ever taken a physics class?
What he was saying is that doing 45 mph constantly over a given distance is more efficient than stop-and-go averaging 45 mph even when factoring in regen. Regen is a transfer from kinetic energy to electrical energy and ultimately chemical energy (in the battery). Since you are well versed in physics you should know that there are inherently losses with every energy conversion. Please be civil, especially when your rude comments are factually incorrect.

Of course there are losses. Just not as much since regen makes up some of those losses.
I'm tired of people using the term "physics" as if it is a catch all phrase. Especially since I'm a 35 yr experience Mechanical Engineer.
And you need to be civil and not be rude since you are factually incorrect. See? It works both ways.

Are you saying that regen is more efficient than no deceleration at all? You are entitled to your opinions, but you are not entitled to your own facts. As a Chemical Engineer with 16 years of experience I vividly remember hearing there is no such thing as a free lunch in my coursework, and you should have as well. Regen is better than friction brakes, but is not better than constant velocity.
