The infortainment screen locked up today right after a message stating that I need to call SiriusXM to 'subscribe'. By lockup, I mean that the screen was functionally 'dead'. Nothing I touched on the screen had any effect and this included the environmental controls such as the seat warmers and any other buttons on that row. The 'home' button next to the volume control did not work and neither did the volume button. This was a bit nerve wracking to say the least as I was driving on a dark mountain road when this occurred and I was worried that if I stopped the vehicle and tried powered down and up again, it might not start. When I got home, it took about 10 minutes of experimentation of powering down, up, leaving the car and sacrificing a goat in the driveway, but the car finally reset the infotainment system. It's behaved properly since. I've attached a photo of the locked up screen. I'm not sure exactly why the system recovered.

Not sure if this has happened to others, but this is a head's up. Also, I thought the SiriousXM trial was supposed to last 3 months, not 3 weeks. I don't care that much about having the trial as I listen to the music on my phone for the most part, but subscription termination or expiration shouldn't have these unanticipated consequences obviously.

Thanks for the info.
1. How do I go about getting an update? Do I have to take to dealer or is it something I can do online?
2. How did you get that info bulletin? It looks like a chevy internal doc.
3. How do I tell when my car was built?

Thanks again.

#1 has to be performed at a Chevy dealership.
#3 look at the door post between the driver and rear doors... there is a sticker on the post with your vehicle's build month/year.

The infotainment screen can be rebooted by holding down the "Hold" and "Fast Forward" buttons for about 10 seconds. This seems to be a fairly reliable way to kick it back into life again.

Good to know, but also I had to chuckle. So typical of any software/hardware solution. There is always some arcane way in which to reboot. I've probably lost weeks of my life in the waiting for systems to reboot.

Don't expect too much from the update. I got it a few weeks ago, and my system remains just as buggy and unstable as it was before.
What is your system doing ? There is an update for the steering wheel controls, but that's
not part of the infotainment update. It's an IP USB file update. It has not been officially
released as of yet. I was talking to TAC with a specialist and he told me about it.

Should be released soon. When, I know, you'll know :D

Main screen blacks out, infotainment system reboots itself, display shows surround view/backup vision camera display all the way up to highway speeds, vision camera display shows instead of android auto. All of these are intermittent, and I believe some of them were supposed to be addressed by the v14 update. At least in my case, I have seen no improvement after getting the update. My display does show the updated version number.

I have not noticed any problem with steering wheel controls, though I don't use them a whole lot, other than the regen paddle.

To complete the saga of my original post, once the system came back online, the only thing that did not work was my Sirius subscription (I am week three into a three month trial that comes with the car). Once I called Sirius, they enabled my system to work again, which it does. When I take my car in for it's service I am assuming they will update the software. Hopefully, this doesn't happen again.

Yeah, you definitely should not be assuming that. My dealer didn't, and refused to update until I complained about one or more of the specific conditions supposedly addressed by the update. Then, they finally did give me the update, and it didn't do any good.

I wonder if your dealer did the software update along with the USB file update ??????????????

I was wondering that too, since I saw you mention the separate file via USB (which seems like a ridiculously poor way to implement software version management, by the way). I will inquire. Thanks

Anyone else having issues with the car showing forward camera (it also shows over head and rearview controls)? I just noticed it last weekend. The radio power button turns it off, but I did not know that for a few short trips..Then just hit the button by intuition. (Sorry to hijack this post, but it is related and I could not find a link to post a question?)

Generally happy with things, but had a glitch driving back from San Francisco to San Jose (~60miles) in that the environmental controls were partially functional. Kinda hard to describe, but the display buttons that control whether the controls are on, AC etc were not responsive. The 'hard' buttons below the display worked except for the Auto on the heat/AC. Wasn't worth deep analysis and documentation because I was guessing that when I got home and turned the car off and then on, that the problem would go away and everything would work as normal. That is what happened. But, the car isn't 100% trouble free for me and for something as 'simple' as environmental controls, it really should be bug proof whether it's done in software or not. Especially considering that the features are not very sophisticated (ie. no front/rear env controls etc).

I must admit some nervousness to the idea of turning the car off and on because if it's anything like a PC, there is some small chance it won't startup again. Anecdotal to be sure, but it's in the back of my mind.

I have had my infotainment screen get locked on the live forward camera specifically when my phone was plugged in for android auto. As soon as I unplugged my phone, the standard radio screen would come back and when I plugged my phone back in, the live forward camera would show. Once I turned my car off and then back on, everything was back to normal.

My "infotainment" screen froze on the Chevy Bolt splash page.

Tried pushing everything. After reading Sean Nelson's post I was going to try re-booting by holding the "Home" and "FastForward" buttons but the screen was working properly when I went back to my car.

Hitting the home button, brings the screen back home, I found. Not sure why the seemingly inconsistent behavior, but not a big issue.

Hi Sean,

What do you mean by the "hold" button? I assume the fast forward button is the radio station or track (USB) changing button, right?

I ask because this morning I had to turn the Bolt on twice because it took about 3 minutes for the infotainment screen to appear.

Thanks!
Jerry
