I have a 2017 Bolt, and for the past couple months (possibly since the last OTA software update, but I didn't notice it until way more recently than that), the Audio Info screen in the instrument cluster is usually (almost always) out of sync with what's happening with my main infotainment screen.

Examples:

  • When I hang up a phone call, the instrument cluster stays on the “call” screen (i.e., who I was talking to, with the "hang up" button displayed) long after I've hung up. If I press the hang up/cancel/mute button on the steering wheel, it correctly mutes the radio, and I see the "push" effect on the screen, but the screen doesn't change.
  • If I'm listening to music from my phone, either via Bluetooth or CarPlay, the instrument cluster screen is always a song (or two) behind what's actually playing. The main infotainment screen shows the correct info.
  • If I'm listening to satellite radio, the screens seem to stay in sync much better, but not perfectly.

I've tried rebooting the infotainment system, switching devices, and forgetting/re-pairing my phone. I have not yet tried a full reset to factory settings, because it's a pain to set all my pairings/favorites/preferences up again. I'm just curious whether anyone else has experienced (and hopefully fixed) this issue.

As they would say in the Old Country, "If only I had your problems" :)

I no longer pay attention to such trifle thing as the DIC stuck in the backup camera mode, 1/2 mile into driving forward. Or the USB and the Bluetooth disconnecting and reconnecting themselves unpredictably. Or the "no key detected" chirping.

Yesterday we had a little more thrilling experience, while descending on a very steep and windy road from the Skyline Drive to the valley. Suddenly the HVAC and the radio went out. We were wondering what would happen if the rest of the circuitry were to be overtaken by the gremlins - could we lose the rest of the instrumentation? propulsion? steering? brakes? And if we stopped to reset the computer, would kEVin reboot normally?

Luckily, the rest of the Tesla Killer emeritus continued to function, and the DIC came back to its senses after a mile or two without any action on our part, but I am kind of more and more looking forward to the 45K miles, so I may return to GM what's truly theirs.

Dang, I didn't realize the DIC and infotainment screens could get so glitchy. I've only a handful of times experienced a non-responsive infotainment GUI. Specifically, the HVAC GUI buttons that fail to work and update with HVAC state. Similar to @Dimitrij, HVAC was working as expected with the manual controls (temp, fan speed, on/off, baffles), but the infotainment HVAC GUI never reflected any changes.

A soft reboot by holding HOME+NEXT for 10 seconds rebooted the infotainment for me and fixed everything. Ultimate cause I think was my shifting into R or D too quickly during system bootup. I've only done this handful of times when I wasn't paying attention. Now, I have a routine when booting my Bolt before shifting out of P and the problem hasn't shown up again.

Does this mean that you are on lease, that you will not continue leasing, and also not purchase a Bolt EV?
I am on lease.

I have never leased anything before, so not educated in the intricacies, but I am guessing it's cheaper in the terms of $/mile to continue to lease past the mile allowance.

But --- if a gently used well priced 2016-2018 RAV4 Hybrid floats into my direction in the next few months, that just might trigger lease termination on my end.

Exactly, you've got to negotiate that up front... I paid $10 or $15 a month extra to make sure my deal included enough miles. Personally I'd rather just do a beater or borrower car once a week to adjust my use.. rather than turn in a car early. Whether you hate it or love it, a car is still nice to have for 36 months of utility, if one has paid for 36 months of utility.

I would be more interested in getting some input about some things that will happen in future rather than those that already happened he past.

If I could go back to 2017, I'd be busy buying lottery tickets and not negotiating miles :)

Right, I've screwed up before not getting enough miles once, and I learned. Like I said if you're going over, in the FUTURE just mix in a beater/borrower drive once or twice a week to make the mileage time out perfect. That way you get your full 36 mos utility out of what you pay in. Anyways just my input, this worked good for me that one time. I couldn't stomach turning in early, frugal ******* that I am. IIRC my overage penalty was just as brutal as wahoo says.

My car also does some strange stuff with the dash screen, sounds like the OP's issues are worse than mine though. Mine usually clear up quickly. Hopefully the next update will solve his issues.

Chevy just doesn’t get it that in modern cars software features, performance, and stability are as important as other aspects of the car. If they did they would have found a way to get my many identified issues with infotainment system, CarPlay, and myChevrolet app to actual developers that could do something about it. Tesla and Nissan kick their ass in this regard.
