"Internet Connection not Strong Enough at this Time" and "Internet Connection not Reliable at this Time".

The above were two verbal messages I got while doing a voice search using the Bolt Hotspot data connection yesterday on Android Auto. If I didn't get the above messages... the search just timed out and went back to the map page on the center display without any search results.

AA/Google Maps/Waze Search has always worked perfectly before from any location while driving home- same route as driven yesterday.

Called OnStar... they "saw some issues" and reset the Bolt modem connection. Unfortunately, you can't uses the search function from Waze or Google maps while on a Onstar phone call so there was no way to see if their modem "reset" worked... which it didn't.

Obviously the 4G connection from the Bolt works as I could make cell and OnStar calls from the onboard system without issue.

Google Maps and Waze both still work perfectly, only the search features give the above verbal failure notices or the search just times out.

Of course I really needed the search to work yesterday , I wasn't feeling well and was looking for a Walk in Clinic on the way home. Usually I'm just looking for pizza or other food. Aggravating situation.

As of this morning, Search via AA/Google Maps/Waze are still not working.

Any Ideas?

Try uninstalling/reinstalling all of the apps? I'm doubtful your internet is actually the culprit.

Funny thing is... if I unplug the phone to Bolt USB connection (ending the AA session) and the phone is connected via wifi to the Bolt hotspot... the search from Google on the phone works (I don't have data on my phone BTW).

Sounds like it's definitely an issue with one of the apps. If the uninstall/reinstall doesn't work, try downloading and installing slightly older versions of the apps. Could be a recent update introduced some bug with your phone.

Called OnStar again this afternoon during my 45min drive home... figured it would be a good use of otherwise wasted time.

At this point, they couldn't even connect with the modem in the Bolt, they had me pull over, they sent a reset signal over the OnStar system, had me power down and get out and lock the Bolt, wait 2 min then get back in and power up the Bolt again. They still couldn't communicate with the modem. So they have escalated the case, they said "expect a call in 3-9 bus days".

Guessing the next step will be... go to the dealer and replace the modem :(

So yesterday I tried using the voice feature to look up a destination via Android Auto, and I got the same "internet connection is not reliable right now" error you were getting (forget the exact words). So I'm definitely thinking it has to be some update of an app gone wrong, as the odds of your Bolt's modem and my modem failing at the same week are probably infinitely small. I'll have to test if rolling back to an older version of AA eliminates the error. My Wifi hotspot still works just fine despite the error.

Supposedly clearing the "Google Services" cache is a potential fix.

Thanks for trying ... Will be interested to see what you come up with. I'm also leaning towards not believing it's a Bolt modem issue.

As I mentioned above, if I unplug my phone (which does not have a data plan) and it's still connected to the Bolt's WiFi hotspot- the search feature works from Google maps running on the phone directly, It just doesn't work when running in AA.

Fixed.....

Did some more troubleshooting over the last day or two... everything pointed back to Android Auto running on my phone as the culprit.
So... this morning I uninstalled AA, rebooted my phone (LG Phoenix 3), installed AA again, connected it to the Bolt.... and everything's back up and working again! Voice search works in both Waze and Google Maps, no more verbal warnings about poor internet connections, etc... the system just works as it always has.

High tech devices..you can't live with them, and they don't survive double-barrel blasts from a shotgun.

^ and OnStar's "help" where the tech told me they couldn't connect with my Bolt only "helped" to confuse/obscure the real issue.

Glad to hear the issue is resolved.

Not sure of all the circumstances as to why you do not have any data plan on your phone but my wife and I have been very happy with Republic wireless.

Republic wireless is a a MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) and they resell T-mo service, coverage map matches T-mo coverage map, they offer service plans that fit my frugal cell budget, we get two lines with tax for $50/mo with 1GB on each and the option to buy more data if we run out. This link would save you $20 from your first months bill with Republic
