Hi, fellow Bolt enthusiasts!


My wife and I replaced our 2013 C-Max Energi in September '17 with a new 2017 Cajun Red (wife's choice) Bolt LT, and we've loved it this entire last year... so 3 weeks ago, we replaced our 2013 LEAF with a new 2018 Nightfall Gray Metallic Bolt Premier! Now that we have two, the red one is officially "hers" and the new one is mine... so I've started with some UPGRAYEDDs (any Idiocracy fans here?).



We tinted both cars recently (35% on both, the limit in Illinois), and now I've de-chromed most of the bits on my car and I'm pretty happy with how it came out. 3rd pic was with just the top chrome "deleted" and in the 4th pic, I have just finished de-chroming the lower strip (also did the one across the back bumper). Note: 3rd pic also has the Bowtie blacked out, but I wasn't happy with how that came out and have since removed the vinyl ... have tried several times and covering it with vinyl doesn't come out well at all.


There's more to come aesthetically and maybe, maybe something to turn up the performance a bit (I'll explain more about this in a future post, stay *tuned*)...

As a side note, who else is interested in tuning their Bolt?



One thing I found about the LEAF that I liked was the much-relaxed accelerator pedal behavior in "ECO" mode. Since the Bolt has "Normal" and "Sport," it's more than likely possible that if so desired, you could change the pedal behavior in normal mode to more closely mimic the slow ramp-in that the LEAF ECO mode has.



Increasing the power in Sport mode would also be fun

As much as I like power, I'm already concerned I've shorten the useful life of my stock tires. I need to get the tires rotated, because I'm pretty sure the front ones have a little less tread.

But... that's a feature of the car!! Besides 17" tires aren't that bad to replace... Gotta put the "hot" in "hot hatch!"

Me and my wife love our Bolt EVs too. I’m trying to keep the same mods on both also, minus the stuffed animals inside of her car LOL.
I’m getting my black badges on Tuesday and I’ve already ordered ones for hers.

Those two make a very complimentary pair, @nutsinbolts!

Some recommendations, but have you considered a contrasting scheme between the two? Like on the Nightfall gray, get dark red wheels akin to the Cajun red in overcast daylight and for the Cajon red get dark grey wheels? Then perhaps blackout the bowtie on the Cajun Red and make the bowtie on the Nightfall gray red?

Also, why didn't you like the vinyl wrap? Were the edges not trimmed to your liking? Have you considered plastidip?

I've tried vinyl wrapping the Bowtie 4 different times now without being happy with it. I did the vinyl over the chrome everywhere else and I'm 97.8% happy with it. But on the Bowties, they just look ... amateurish.
I like your recommendations! However, my wife doesn't really want to modify hers at all beyond the tint, sooo... I'll stick to modding Upgrayedd. Two Ds for a double dose of modding.

While not my cup of tea, your grayedd out Bolt certainly has a distinctive look.

I have plans to two tone my car, with blue factory color paint, after I paint our '90 Century Coupe. Since my favorite color is chrome, the only other mod to the looks of the car will be tinted windows.
