Seems like setting up KeyPass from the myChevrolet app no longer finds the car (while sitting in it while it is turned on with KeyPass enabled on the car) when used with an Android 9 (Pie) phone.

Anyone figure out how to get it to work?

While trying to make sense out of mychevrolet, I encountered a few little gremlins, and I think the one you described was one of them. Since I have only 14 months left on my lease, I concluded there was no point in investing any intellectual resources into this POS (perplexingly odd software), so I quit using mychevrolet :)

KeyPass™ is notoriously buggy even under the best of circumstances.

FWIW I was able to (eventually) get it to work with my Android 9 Moto X4.

Was there anything special you needed to do to get it to work?
It was complicated, I read about how to do it on another site but it still took several tries.

Basically it involved putting the phone into airplane mode to start the process then taking it out of airplane mode partway through.

Edit: I think this is what I used:

What's not listed here that I needed to do was to disable airplane mode after the pairing process started. Basically the phone can't be connected to the Internet when it's looking for the car but needs to connect to the Internet to finish the setup process.

If you go into the factory reset menu on the car display, reset personal data.
Then on your Android phone, go into the resets menu, reset wireless settings.

Try again and it should work right away.

Note: I am not responsible if you accidentally wipe your phone :)

Tried the following (Pixel 3, Android 9):

* Removed all Bluetooth phones from the car and the old KeyPass phone (which worked until it was upgraded to Android 9) from the car.
* Removed the car from the phone's Bluetooth configuration (the car was the only Bluetooth device in the phone).
* Tried to set up KeyPass.
* Sometimes it fails at "Searching for Vehicle".
* Sometimes it finds the vehicle and gets stuck at "Pairing with Vehicle", eventually failing.
* The above (sometimes fails on searching, sometimes on pairing) occurs whether or not the phone is in airplane mode (with Bluetooth turned back on, whether or not wifi is turned back on) and whether or not wifi is turned on in the car.

Is there a specific place to hold the phone to be closer to the Bluetooth antenna to get KeyPass to connect?

I remember reading in one of the posts that to initially set up KeyPass (not MyChevrolet) you had to have an active OnStar subscription. From the way it was written, it indicated it had to be more than the free 5 or 10 year subscription. Maybe someone else has more info on this.

I have never been able to get KeyPass to set up. I stopped trying as I did not see any advantage to having KeyPass. MyChevrolet did everything I needed and works no matter where I and/or the car are located.

When I previously got KeyPass to work with phones running Android 8 or earlier, it was when I had only the 5 year included OnStar Basic subscription, same as now. One of the previous phones that worked with KeyPass had KeyPass stop working after it was upgraded to Android 9.

The main noticeable difference between using OnStar and KeyPass is that KeyPass is faster when using things like lock/unlock, etc. from the app.

Thanks. Maybe I will try again.

Just got a new 2019 and KeyPass won't connect to the myChevrolet app running on my Galaxy Note 9. It usually says "no vehicle found", and once in a while starts "pairing" but never finishes. It's a really dismal experience for a new owner. Is KeyPass actually worth bothering with?

I also have a 19 Bolt with a Galaxy S8. Get the same thing. If I ever get it to work I can answer if Keypass is worth bothering with. I left a 1 star review on the myChevy app. Got a reply to send them an e-mail detailing what was happening. I did so and am waiting to see if I ever hear back.

Not in my estimation. I tried at least a dozen times over a year ago, to no avail. I haven't missed it one bit.

KeyPass allows the app functions (lock/unlock, etc.) to function without OnStar when near the car. This is considerably faster than using OnStar.

Also, if it works and if it keeps working after your OnStar subscription ends, it may be a way to retain that functionality.

I ended up disabling KeyPass, but get a constant nag screen telling me to turn it on, which covers up both the normal infotainment screen and Android Auto that stays up for a ridiculous amount of time. Any way to disable that nag screen?

Same. Nag screen is annoying but it only pops up once in a while at random times.

My 2017 has a " pop up msg " setting you can disable under the setting menu, try if that works.

My guess for using phone app was to mainly start your car remotely but if I don't have OnStar subscription and I didn't see the point how it connect to my car (other then using Bluetooth )

I try it couple times too but unable to find my car and I uninstalled the app, just use the keyfob to remote start.
