Just like our president, narcissistic, inflated ego and dangerous. Wouldn't give this guy a dime. Well, just my opinion but what do you think?

I've noticed similarities in personality between Trump and Musk for a long time, and some of that personality manifests itself in gross ways. That said, somehow it's that type of personality that allows them to accomplish things. That's not an excuse for gross behavior, but an acknowledgement that boldness seems to require, or at least heavily favor, egotism. I identify aspects of my personality that are similar and it bothers me, though I identified this early on and made a point not to seek positions of authority because it would bring out the worst aspects of my nature.

I'd still buy Tesla products. Tesla isn't a single person, and no person is perfectly righteous. These characters are gross and wrong sometimes, but they aren't evil.

The problem with Elon is he is so intelligent that he assumes he knows answers in fields he is not familiar with. Physicists are like this, I am one and I know others. Physics is all about data and trying to predict the future from past results. The big thing here is China flat out lied about their deaths and how many people were affected with Covid-19. If you look at China's data there is absolutely no way that this many Americans should have died or contracted the virus. I also though that the risk for Covid-19 was minimal at first because of China's data. China should be investigated for this, because their released data brought increased risk to the global community. Elon is now smart enough to know he was wrong and if he was asked about this he would freely admit this. This is the difference between someone like Trump and Elon. Trump will invent lies to be correct. Elon learns from his mistakes and will try to correct them.

Not quite following on what Trump has accomplished (not actually asking - I know exactly what he's done).

I don't follow Trump either, but even I now he was known for real estate accomplishments, a reality TV show, becoming POTUS, and then there's things he's accomplished while in office:

Trump Administration Accomplishments | The White House

Among my favorite is moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem and getting tough on countries that took advantage of our gullibility such as China and Iran.

Yeah, China denied and covered up when the disease first started. But then they shut down huge swaths of the populace, so no matter what the numbers were you could easily see that they were dealing with something very serious. All of the experts were sounding fervent alarms in plenty of time for other countries to be a lot better prepared than they were.

Unfortunately it's human nature to pay less attention to problems on the other side of the world, and it's politically very difficult to take extreme measures early on when the virus has started to spread under the radar. It seems that only the countries who bore the brunt of the SARS epidemic have handled this halfway decently, probably because the consequences of not doing so were still in their memories.

And let's not forget Steve Jobs and his Reality Distortion Field that gave us the Mac, iPod, and iPhone. He generated such loyalty that even people he fired said that if cut they'd still bleed in six colors (the colors of the Apple logo at the time).

And inherited nearly ALL of his wealth. How can you bankrupt a casino?

Elon is off target, but the article would be more useful by providing the full context of the quotes rather than one and two word snippets.

He's an engineer. He should've known better. Elon wants to keep his factory running and lied to the people.

Elon needs to step up and just admit he was wrong. That would do a lot. Perhaps he should put on his full hazmat suit and go to NY to see the bodies being loaded into refrigerator trucks. I don't dislike him and really like Teslas as a product but I've learn to take what he says with a grain of salt. I also think his narcissism "leaks" into his products and when many people see someone driving a Tesla, they assume the driver is thinking "If you're not me, you're dumb". Didn't really want a stigma to go along with my vehicle purchase which was a minor consideration when I chose the Bolt over the similarly prices Model 3 SR+. I'd rather just drive a sporty little EV and fly under the radar.

HEY HEY HEY

You do NOT diss Elon. The man is a genius and is making humanity a LOT better with his tech. Yes he can be a jerk in a few minor ways ( disabling supercharging on fixed cars is a moron move to be sure ) but he makes up for it by nudging humanity to a better future.

Totally agree. I think there are some problems with his attitude to fix but still you can't deny that he's the most encouriging figure of our times for the future and technology. I was lucky to attend one of the seminars involving him 5 years ago in Berlin when I was there to buy a home in Germany and I remember that I thought like "What a jerk..." during his speech. But he did a lot for the humanity after all.

The things done well don't cover up or excuse the things done poorly.

Musk is a smart and interesting person, but then he's pretty far out there on things too, like believing reality is a simulation. I suppose framing your perception of reality that way at least gives an advantage of taking greater risk, 'cause what the heck, it's just a simulation.

I've got a friend that treats relationships in a very self-centered way. If he doesn't find a person interesting or influential, he won't waste time talking to them. He's an executive officer of a tech company in silicon valley and has a couple businesses of his own. To achieve those things, it takes a personality that is selfishly goal oriented. I like the guy just fine because I have calibrated my expectations for that relationship.

No, he's a world class jerk, as well as a sleaze bag. And I'm not too fond of his acolytes as well...

I think President Trump is one of the best presidents our country has ever had. He is an imperfect man but I do believe he is putting America first and he cares about making the economy better for everyone. The world has been taking advantage of us for a long time. Not anymore!! This whole pandemic thing is China's fault. They knew, They hid it, It spread to the world. They stop airplane flights within their own country but allowed the infected people fly all over the world. This was not an accident.

Wrong thread. This is the “Musk is a jerk” thread. You want the ”Trump is a jerk” thread.
