Sleezy that they installed it without telling you. Sleezier that they installed it unsafely.

If you remove it I wonder if the dealer or bank contacts you when they don't get a ping off the missing device.

He mentioned that they did tell him. Not saying dealerships haven’t told people…. but in this case they did.

What a terrible installation job...

There's very little chance a thief wouldn't immediately look for, find & remove that. OnStar has a better chance of helping you, as low as that is.

The dealer didn’t install it for theft recovery… they installed it for easy repossession.

Follow Up

The salesman got back to me: This is the GPS system they installed on all of the cars when they came in. It needs to be zip-tied back up under the dash.

Looks like I'll try to remove it. I think the actual GPS device is mounted atop of (what looks like) air vents in the driver footwell.

Lol... I might put it back if it was a lease and you agreed to it. Other than that... nope.
