Was driving when i felt something under my feet and found this:

The wire was just laying there. I assume it just fell loose, not someone was digging around up there (car was parked downtown but locked).

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm not completely sure how the wiring was secured before. Ideas?

What a terrible installation job...

I'd personally go back to the dealer and politely ask them to remove it. There's very little chance a thief wouldn't immediately look for, find & remove that. OnStar has a better chance of helping you, as low as that is. Really seems like the only person that is benefiting is the dealership, who probably maintains some kind of administrative rights to monitor/track your car.

Yeah I probably wouldnt be as nice in requesting they remove it from my vehicle. But it definitely needs to go. And they definitely need to answer for the shoddy install as well. Good luck man.

This is pretty typical.

Dealer "It's already integrated with the vehicle, we can't remove it, besides it's a safety device that only costs you $1,500 for peace of mind."

Translation "It costs us $20 and one of our guys two minutes to put some wiretaps in."

Looks like a t harness, should be able to unplug it pretty easily

Here's how mine looked before I removed it. It was plugged into the OBII with a pass-through. I also felt it hit my foot at one point.

Oh and I can't stress this enough, kudos to the OP for not spelling it "Lose"...

The dealer didn’t install it for theft recovery… they installed it for easy repossession.

The salesman got back to me: This is the GPS system they installed on all of the cars when they came in. It needs to be zip-tied back up under the dash.

Looks like I'll try to remove it. I think the actual GPS device is mounted atop of (what looks like) air vents in the driver footwell.

Lol... I might put it back if it was a lease and you agreed to it. Other than that... nope.
