This scene reminds me of Hunting season in Southern AZ. I was all the way back in some really rough country when here comes a guy in a Honda Civic... He was hunting Javelina I laughed for a while on that one...LOL

I spent many years and many miles in SoCal and never saw a rattlesnake.
Depends if you get outside the city or not. There's plenty of rattlesnakes in the foothills east of San Diego and also sometimes in the canyons that weave through the San Diego area. I lived in Ramona, on the East side of San Diego and came across several. A big one was laid out across the trail near my home and I was slowly approaching it to take a picture. Scared the carp out of me when it triggered the rattle and took off.

Very low incidence rate though and they will try to get away from you first. Dogs and horses are a bigger concern. They have classes for dogs to train them not to mess with rattlesnakes.

One good thing is that the only venomous snake in SoCal is the western diamond back, so learn what that looks like and steer clear. Anything else is not venomous.

Caught this cutie in my yard:
Snake Reptile Scaled reptile Viper Serpent
