Hello all! I'm from the Midwest, and I decided to jump into an EV for the first time in my life. It's a bit scary for me as I am fairly "old school" coming from a lifetime of combustion engine autos. Coming from a HEMI V8 that I traded in when I purchased the Bolt has been quite the paradigm shift, but I'm am enjoying it so far. My commute is 36 miles daily and have not had issue using just the factory supplied charger as of yet, but I've already ordered an L2 that should arrive sometime next week so I can keep the L1 in the trunk for emergencies.

The EV phenomenon has not really caught on here so I am one of the few although I do see the occasional Tesla but have not seen a bolt in the wild besides mine...yet. Im still in the "honeymoon" phase so it's hard for me to be objective yet on my purchase. My coworkers are very curious and always seem to be impressed/amazed by two things - one is how much leg and headroom are in the back and the other is the HD rear view mirror. Still feels weird not having to stop at the gas station, but it's a good weird :D

Cheers!

Congratulations!

Your commute is almost the same as mine: 60 kms (40 mi). I have a level 2 charger in my garage at home, and I charge every night. It's kinda like plugging in your phone: you may not use all of the charge in a day ... but ya never know. :)

Tron, it may seem weird not going to the gas station, but trust me, over time you will love not going to the shop for a million zillion maintenance things too ... I've had a 2017 Bolt for a bit over 4 years, and my total maintenance has been having the brakes redone once and to change the wiper blades every year (live in New England). No oil to be changed, no hoses to be checked, no this and that stuff. A bunch of cities have found that their EVs maintenance costs them 10-20% of the amount their ICE vehicles run up.

Welcome!

Love the pic, that would make a great Avatar for your profile!

What is a gas station? lol

Been so long, I struggled a few days ago filling up my Wife's ICE.

Hope the forum helps you as you navigate the learning curve. 3 years in and still learning new stuff daily from this site!

Congratulations and welcome! WRT gas stations, wait a bit until you are at a family or friends gathering in a few months, and the conversation turns to the price of gas, and you suddenly realize that you have no idea what gas cost these days 😉

I seem to recall seeing gas prices at $3.35 recently. In all honesty, hard to recall price history so not so sure if that is good or bad. I do recall seeing prices dip to .99 during the COVID lockdown, so I guess $3.35 is not so great. I am sure I will be shocked when I go to SoCal in October.
