Hi there! I just made the leap from an almost 20year old manual shift combustion engine BMW 325i that finally was too damaged to invest in. I got a great deal on a hardly used 2019 Bolt in the distinctive color of Shock! I'm already very excited after driving just a few days. Excited to learn from others experience here!

We’re near you! One pedal driving makes dealing with stop n go ATL traffic much easier - hope you enjoy your new Bolt!

Welcome aboard. We hope to have SAE-CCS DCFC here in WV in the near (6 months) future so that Bolt EV owners from OH, KY, NC, VA, MD, DE, & PA can travel to and through our state instead of around it!

That would be great! (y) We road tripped to PA in the Blueberry and did indeed have to go around WV. We went through KY and OH on the way up and then through VA, TN and NC on the way back. Maybe AL will eventually get some fast chargers in places that are not along the Gulf Coast.

Yep, we could sure use a few in Birmingham (i-20 or i-459) as we can get to that point easily from Atlanta on a full charge. But getting to Tuscaloosa or further requires an L2 stop somewhere in the abyss of no DCFC in middle Alabama. (other than the Chevy Dealer in Heflin that i really dont count as they keep it locked and are closed Sunday's; 24 Kwh max rate anyway).

I agree (except that kWh is not a "rate"). Yes, I know the SAE parameters for AC Levels 1 & 2 and DC Levels 1 & 2. But a big part of me wishes that 24 kW was NOT termed DCFC (even though DC Level 1). And an even bigger part of me wishes that 3.3 kW {actually 3.328 kW} obtained by using 2 wires of a 3 phase AC circuit {208 VAC} times 16 amps (Volt EVSE NOT Bolt EVSE) was NOT termed AC Level 2!! I bought my Bolt EV in MD in 2017 and drove it home to WV. Naive as I was, I expected "all" AC Level 2 to add 25 range miles per charging hour (rmpch). I planned to make the 350 mile trek by leaving with a 100% SoC and charging at "Level 2" for 5.5 hours. Forty hours later, after two unexpected overnight stops, I rolled up the driveway. Experience can be a mean mother.

Yeah, we don't know what we don't know until we know it right surgeonFWW? I had a 500 mile trek on my drive home from the dealer and I failed to understand one couldn't just charge up to the full 100% capacity on a DCFC in an hour or so (it went to 50% quickly, so I figured it would go all the way to 100% in twice the time; I had no understanding of how tapering worked back then). My education wasn't nearly as painful as yours though as i had planned an overnight stop at a hotel with an L2 anyway. I woke up 9 hours later to a full battery and made it the rest of the way home (I also had Electrify America available on my drive every 100 miles if needed).
It would have been nice if the chevy dealer had a clue about these things so they could give us a heads up and a little education in advance.
