Hi All, we were excited to get our first EV but unfortunately in our first day discovered that a full charge displayed a range of 139mi. This seems well below expected even with the battery recall applied with 10% reduced charge.

Is this expected? Considering returning car to investigate as expected closer to 200mi range even with recall applied.

Any tips welcomed as were newbies.

Short answer - the range estimate (referred to as the GOM, or Guess-O-Meter) is based on previous driving/HVAC usage. It does not directly tell you anything about the health of the battery.

If you want a rough estimate of battery capacity, make sure the car is fully charged, drive it to 50% (the point where the number of green bars drops from 11 to 10), and multiple the energy consumed in the Energy Tab by 2. Or drive till nearly empty and do the same thing without multiplying. Note that this is a rough estimate.

But most likely your battery is fine and whoever drove the car previously likely was doing so in cold weather, with the heater on, at low speeds (e.g. lots of test drives).

FWIW, in winter our 2017 charged to Hilltop Reserve usually GOMs 140, so yours is average.
