My wife and I just purchased a 2019 Chevy Bolt Premiere and are smitten by the quality of the ride. My wife likens it to riding the monorail at Disney World. I have fallen in love with the single pedal option. It reminds of driving a boat. I love driving past all of the gas stations I used to have to frequent even with my Prius.

What brought me to this site was a search for Bolt road trips. I’m thinking it would be a great way to force me to abandon my conquer all at all costs mentality. We are only into week 2 and am sure I have much to learn.

Welcome! There are quite a few stories told here about Bolt EV journeys. My personal best is 690 miles one way. Enjoy your new ride!

Congratulations! Taking long trips in an EV of any kind is a bit different than an internal combustion vehicle, but it really depends on mindset. You're going to hear folks here tell you that it's not worth your time, while others will tell you that there are little to no actual sacrifices if you take a more relaxed approach to traveling.

Also, the public charging infrastructure is being built out at a very rapid pace. Depending on where you are in the country, you might already be able to take long trips quickly with a lot of choices. Other parts of the country might still be waiting for public fast charging to be completed.

Congrats! I would go to youtube and look at NewsCoulomb videos about his experience putting over 70,000 miles on his Bolt. He won't plug himself, but if you watch his videos he will inform you on how to most effectively use the charging network and plan for trips. I have almost 50,000 miles on my Bolt, but it is a 130 mile a day commuter car. My trip experience probably involves fast charging my Bolt about 15 times in 21 months. The most important thing you can do now is give all your friends test drives. Adapting everyone to EV's as quickly as possible is the goal and people will understand the importance when they one pedal drive!

Welcome, Jim and Valerie.

You've already discovered the Bolt is pure magic in an urban environment. Whether you find road tripping fun and exciting or high stress is sort of up to you and yours. FWIW, we've heard from a few males that the female did not share his excitement at waiting two hours at a charger located on the backside of a convenience store in a sketchy part of town.

At present, we don't road trip our Bolt. That's because we're in the frozen ass-end of nowhere. Your results may vary.

That is why DCFC and accurate charge targeting apps are in use.

Welcome to a better way of driving! You are going to love it!

Get the PlugShare app and the new Electrify America app and signup for whichever plan suits your charging needs (if you are going to be using it more often every month pay the $4 per month to get cheaper rates) and use the A Better Route Planner site to map out your trips!
