I love my Bolt which I have driven 700 miles so far. But I can see it will not be great for long distance driving. Almost all my driving is within 100 miles of my home but I do go on long trips occasionally. Ontario is about 600 miles and takes 10 hours in my Prius. When I mapped out the route for the Bolt it would take 23 hours!. Not happening. So my next car will be the absolutely beautiful 2023 Prius Prime. I know some people will go on long trips with the Bolt but I do not think it worth the hassle. Great car for daily driving. So you need 2 cars. Most people have that.

The Bolt will take more than twice as long as your Prius? I think there's a mistake. Care to provide some details?

For comparison, I drove my Bolt 500 miles from DC to Cape Cod. It probably didn't take more than 2.5 extra hours for charging. And that includes time that I was doing something else while charging (e.g. eating lunch, toilet breaks, etc.).

I used the chevy app. There were 5 recharging stops. Try it going from Long Island to London Ontario.

The chevy app gives me weird results. I tried it to map a route home from Cape Cod, and it would've had me driving down the length of Manhattan Island and charging in a parking garage there. Suffice to say, that's nuts.

Try a different app, e.g. A Better Route Planner (ABRP). You don't need to install ABRP initially. Just go to their website and play with it.

Responding to the header, "Next Car After Bolt?", in our family there will be no next car after the Bolt.
I doubt there's a next car in my future either. But one of the reasons I wanted a Bolt in the first place was it was smaller car suitable for cities where all the new EVs seem to be more of our national obsession with ever BIGGER trucks and SUVs.

We're a three-car family with a 2005 truck, a 2008 sedan, and a 2016 Kia Sedona minivan. The truck will be sold when we (finally) get an EUV. We'll be hanging on to the minivan for hauling, long distance driving, etc. Our third car will be a 2004 Cadillac Lyriq that I put a preorder on last June, if and when they ever start shipping in volume.

We bought this Bolt for one specific purpose: to slow down the odometer on the Sienna, which had accrued almost 60,000 miles in 18 months. Since we already had a bolt in 2017-2019 we know what to expect. So we use it whenever we do not need AWD, ultra long range, or the capability to haul 6+ people or loads of stuff.

However recently I have been kind of salivating over the 2023 Prius prime, because it will be able to substitute for the Sienna in many more driving scenarios, with the presumed total cost of ownership closer to that of the bolt. And it is a Prius, which means we could probably expect 150k miles without unscheduled maintenance. It would certainly be worth a look

My last Prius last 297,000 miles and was running perfectly when it was totaled by an idiot.

Yes, ABRP looks good. Are those charge times accurate for the Bolt? If true this is good news.
ABRP charge times have been accurate for me. Maybe a tad on the conservative side (aka shows me arriving with 21% and I'll actually arrive with 25%, charging times will be a couple mins less).

I don't recommend using the chevy app. I use ABRP for distance driving and Plugshare around town

Looking at your avatar, I think I should be asking you.
I haven't done it yet. I was pondering using the tow bolt in the front bumper. Of course our flying sites tend not to be in DC charger-friendly areas.

That looks like a Falcon on your roof. I'd be interested in your solution. BTW, I've already implemented the Cadillac cross-bars on my roof.

The Mrs. just got an Ioniq 5 that we'll be using for road trips. I'm very impressed by the car so far. I definitely recommend it if you can swing it. Luckily she found a dealer who was not charging any markup, but had to wait since May for her number to come up.
