I have had my Bolt for less than two full weeks. I had a different EV prior. The primary difference I’m noticing when driving my BOLT EUV is that isn’t a “silent.” There is a distinct sound noise. I’ve turned off the climate to see if it’s connected but it doesn’t seem to be. Is this normal?

The 2023 model has a "pedestrian safety signal" so pedestrians can hear your approaching EV. Could that be your noise?

I have a 2022 EUV, which doesn't have this feature, so I can't describe its sound.

On the topic of the futuristic sounding pedestrian safety signal, has anyone figured out how to disable it? Although I must admit I do get some comments that it sounds pretty cool.

It's required by law. If, Dog forbid, you hit a pedestrian and you'd previously defeated the warning sound you'll be in an even more serious world of hurt. Don't do it.

Where I live, DRLs have to be on every new car but it's totally legal to disable them before you drive your new car off the lot and many do. Same with the noise maker I bet, ( but I don't know). I haven't decided yet as I'm still waiting for my car. It appears to be a cool sound but, if it disturbs my neighbors too much, then it's gone. It's your car to do as you please.

In the case of my '69 Charger with 440 Magnum, 500 hp. That already happened. Same for my new Ram Hemi truck.

The 2022 EUV does have this "feature".

From page 76 in the 2022 EUV manual:

Pedestrian Safety Signal
The vehicle is equipped with automatic sound generation.
The automatic sound is generated to indicate the vehicle presence to pedestrians.

United States
The sound changes if the vehicle is speeding up or slowing down.
It is activated when the vehicle is shifted into a forward gear or R (Reverse), up to 33 km/h (20 mph).

Canada
The sound changes if the vehicle is speeding up or slowing down. It is activated when the vehicle is shifted into a forward gear or R (Reverse), up to 23 km/h (14 mph).

Your car most certainly has the noise generator!

Have a look inside your grill and you'll see this sound generator.

My neighbor across the street recently got a Tesla with this feature. I hear him coming which doesn't bother me at all as it's a pleasant sound and suits the futuristic nature of the car. I only heard the Bolt sound in videos so far, never in person. It sounds even better I think. Recently, a visitor arrived on my street driving a Hyundai EV. It had a traditional beeper like a commercial truck. Not as nice to hear. It seems a shame that we could have a quieter society with EVs but how will it sound one day with 100 cars driving in a parking lot or traffic jam? I understand the point of these noise makers but I don't like being forced to use it. They should at least have a switch so you can activate them in a mall parking lot and then turn it off when you enter or exit your driveway.

There's a fuse, someone will remember the number. There's also a fuse for the wireless charger if your phone won't fit in it. Then it's another small storage space.

You could remove the fuse and jump across the circuit, add an inline fuse holder on the power side and run the wires into the cabin and add a switch on the dash to have control over the noise generator. Simple and clean!

Something you can remove without any modifications to the cars electrical systems and detection free!
