If there was ever a video that will convince people that the EV infrastructure is not ready to replace ICE, this was it. Driving around at night, down to one bar, and hoping that the charger works is just crazy.

Like no one has ever run an ICE down to the fuel light being on?
Getting to know your vehicle, building confidence in its ability - didn't sound too stressful for the OP.
As has been said previously, 120V is everywhere, 240V is not uncommon with campgrounds/parks - always having a backup plan can help reduce if not eliminate any anxiety.

I haven't road tripped much with my bolt - only a couple 200-250 mile trips (in winter no less), didn't make any this summer but perhaps in the fall. I see the charging infrastructure improving monthly. A trip to Chicago from Minneapolis is now possible with DCFC along I94, also see the plans for DCFC going up to Fargo and one has been added in Mankato which will ease my travels south. No doubt these trips can be accomplished, but like @GJETSON points out; there is a cost of perception to would-be BEV buyers.

I can make that trip in the Clarity and have hours more time to spend enjoying the grandness of the destination - which is the purpose of the journey. Yet still remain above 95% in all-battery driving for the rest of the time.

'Ol "Iron Seat" @NewsCoulomb knows the Bolts distance envelope like very few others. However he risk only his time, whereas most road travelers to such destinations typically have a travel-mate or family with them. This reaffirms my Case for the PHEV

I didn't watch the video. It's possible to do a great many things in an EV, and possible to end up very inconvenienced as many others have shared.

I'm with Shotel that it's one thing to waste my own time, but another to impose on the time of others. Multiply a delay by the number of people and that gives an accurate time cost.

I made a Bryce Canyon, Zion, Grand Canyon, Vegas, back to PDX trip in my Prius (plug-in). It was very nice hardly ever having to stop, spending very little on fuel, and being able to camp without needing to be plugged in to charge. Perfect road trip machine.

More like "Iron Sphincter" I think NewsCoulomb should look into getting sponsorship from Red Bull. They could even do a wrap for the car. Something like, "Arrive or die!"

[edit] This one is even better!!

I really enjoyed one of Bjorn's videos with the Ampera-e where he was drinking a "battery" - that was the label of the energy drink. Haven't seen that one on this side of the world but pretty appropriate selection.

It's funny what 20 mph headwinds will do. Maybe I should have put more focus on the several ICE drivers who ran out of gas a mile or two short of the gas station. I felt really bad for one couple I saw walking back to their SUV with a small gas can. They were literally a 1/4 mile from the off ramp to the gas station. So close, yet so far away. :crying:

I do like the idea of a Bolt energy drink: "It's got electronlytes!"
