I have a 2018 Chevy Bolt Premier and using a Samsung Galaxy S7 phone. When I connect my phone via the USB cord to utilize the Android Auto screen sharing function, the radio preset navigation keys on the steering wheel initially work to cycle through the radio station presets. If I start navigation in Android Auto however, as soon as the navigation app provides any voice navigation commands (turn left up ahead, etc), the radio preset navigation changes on the steering wheel stop working. If I then unplug the phone to exit Android Auto, the radio preset navigation keys on the steering wheel start working again.
I can even start navigation, have the radio keys stop working, while still in navigation ask google to tell me a joke, now the radio keys work again, then at next time navigation "speaks a direction", radio keys stop working. It is 100% consistent and I can reproduce this issue easily.
I showed the dealer and they said they have never seen this issue, nor have any documented service bulletins on it from Chevrolet.
I have this issue when using google maps or waze, and it is present on the latest Android Auto update that just got pushed out.
I have reproduced the same issue on a Samsung Galaxy S5 and an LG Android phone. I have made a video that demonstrates the issue and posted to google drive at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xZ-9ms-ZtLLXcK0saw4Lth2_8E8cqqix/view?usp=sharing
I have had an open TAC case with Chevrolet since January 2019, TAC #8-4735303223, but no software updates have been made available.
I recently had a 2019 Bolt EV Premier service loaner and it did not have these problems, AND the Android Auto interface operated much faster than on my car with very little lag between pushing a button on the touchscreen and Android Auto responding.
My 2018 Bolt has software version 25.7.0 and the 2019 Bolt service loaner had software version 34.7.1. That is quite a large difference.
Anyone else experience this issue? If so, aware of a fix? What version software does your 2018 Bolt EV Premier have?
My concern is that Chevrolet is making improvements and bug fixes in the software but only making these available in the newer cars, essentially not doing any updates to prior model years anymore.
Thanks
