I just bought a 2017 Bolt LT and am wondering how to get the free 5 Year OnStar Basic, as I bought it from a private seller, not a dealership. Thanks!

You mean the seller still has access to your car via the app? Good thing the car does not have Full Self Driving, like a Tesla, or you might wake up one morning to find that your car went back to the original owner. :)

I think maybe you just call On-Star... not sure how that would work if the previous owner did not report the car sold, thus ready for a new owner to register, though.

The previous owner does not have to report the vehicle sold. OnStar will take anyone's money as often as they can get it. They especially will be good at not telling you if the car has any subscription left, type or length. They will sell you a plan. I think you mentioned the previous owner didn't have a plan so that doesn't matter.
