Can now confirm the Opel logos are all the right part numbers.

I'll get around to installing this badboi into my car in the next few weeks, probably.

Thanks all for the quick helpful responses! To anybody arriving to this thread in the future, please wear hearing protection while installing the chrome wings, they snap into the grille with some force and vigor.
Part numbers were perfect. Installed my new grill tonight. (y)
Looks like it needs a bath though. :cautious:

thank you ClaudiaJ!

I'm a little jelly of that smooth lower grille, the 2020's have a weird texture I don't so much like, but also I don't want to spend a bunch more to get the older smoother version and then disassemble the whole ass front bumper fascia just to get at it.

At least, not yet...

How did you end up pulling the center wheel caps? I don't feel like pulling all the wheels just to bop it out from behind, so figuring I'll try a suction cup first, gorilla tape if that fails, and bore a hole into the plastic and pry it out from inside if that too fails. 🤣

i have a thin little tool I was able to carefully pry them out (from my ifixit tool kit; might even be called a pry tool). Once you just get them started, they easily pop out. No need to take off the wheels.

I didnt realize the lower grill on the 2020’s were different.

Personally, I like what @GJETSON did to his lower grill (painted to match the body color). I doubt I’d ever do it, but i like his choice there. https://www.chevybolt.org/attachments/no-ice-jpg.7330/
I’m with you, I have no desire to tear apart the entire bumper to get at that lower grill. The upper one was a bit annoying, but I still got it done in under 2 hours with my limited skills (and reading everyone’s step by step guides on this forum).

Be aware, the Opel grill doesnt have a hole to hold the electrical connecter that attaches behind the grill. You can probably drill one to match, but i just used some duck tape to hold it in the same area. Not sure it was necessary, but i didnt want the plastic connector rattling around unattached.

What is this electrical connector for? Based on the posted link to @jostafew 's grill removal info, it's clipped onto a tang. Does the wiring just happen to run across the grill and this tang just holds it in place to prevent flopping?

the wiring just runs across behind the entire bumper/grill area and the tang sticking off the grill merely secures the wiring connector in the middle so it doesnt flop. I tried to follow it to see what the wire was for. It runs to both sides of the vehicle, but I didnt see what it connected to. Not sure why the Bolt and Ampera-e would be designed differently, so not sure exactly what the wire is for.
Now you have me more curious than I was last night; I may need to look at it again in daylight just to know :geek:

Service manual just says "Unclip the electrical connector from the grille" too, but no indication I can yet find what it goes to. I assumed it went to the front camera for the 360 Degree camera option (RPO code UVH, or UV2 for HD).
The camera IIRC was found in the lower grille, but the wiring harness might be clipped up there in the upper grille?

My 2020 manual is missing the pages for front fascia harness routing, but my 2017 manual has this:
31914

Any of those routed harness look like what you saw in there?

31920

31921

if I'm reading this right, 1 on fig. 10 Front Fascia Harness Routing connects to 6 on fig 8. Forward Lamp Harness Routing. There's two different possible connectors, but one seems to be specific to Korea market for park assist front & rear. If that's the connector that's clipped there, it should lead to a 6-pin connector like this (again, assuming I'm reading this thing right):

I have an LT, so doubt its related to the 360 surround camera‘s.

Looks like it could be those top wires in your diagram, hard to say. But why would the Ampera-E not have the clip area as well. Unless maybe the design was updated for my 2019 with the new connector that clips on.

I looked at it again and it’s all buried down in there, so I’d have to remove the cover again to trace it and I probably wont do that. The wire is fine without being clipped onto the grill , so it shouldn’t be a concern for this project IMO.

RPO code list has the park assist options looking like they only exist in US, PR & USVI, Canada, and Mexico. Some of the options I remember being distinct to the Ampera-E (e.g. power folding mirrors) are listed in RPO codes for Country Group Korea (MAW) only, same as RPO code UD5 Park Assist-Front and Rear. Maybe Korea (MAW) includes Europe regions with the Opel Ampera-E rebadge? 🤔

Thus it could just be the park assist available in Ampera-E has just different enough routing of that X101 harness that they don't need a clip there? I'll try to get some good enough photos when I get around to installing my grille, just for sake of satisfying curiosity.

it could very well be that wiring harness, even though it‘s hard for me to tell exactly as the connector attached to the tang on the grill is the only part I messed with and the wiring diagrams dont look exact to me.
The connector looks like the image you attached above though, yes. It was about 3 inches long and rectangular. had a slide type of release mechanism to disconnect. Sorry, i dont have the technical knowledge for correct terminology :ROFLMAO:

Same as #15 in this diagram is the X101 harness? Seems to be in the same area and i dont see anything else on any diagrams.

Hey ClaudiaJ,

I was directed to this thread when I asked if anyone has a used front plastic grill in good condition that they want to sell... do you plan on keeping yours? If not drop me a PM about possible purchase by me.

Thanks,

Keith

PS: This thread has inspired me to ask my wife if she would prefer the opel grill... I didn't realize how much better it looks than ours until now :)

I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it yet, but I figure I could part with it to someone in need! Being a whole pandemic, my original grille still has fewer than 400 miles of wind-wear on it, just imagine how few bug guts it's actually seen in its short life! 😜

I should warn you though, I still haven't mustered the motivation to actually do the swap just yet 😱 (it's cold in the garage, and there's nowhere to go anyway...), and so you might get a quicker turnaround response from some others in this thread having also swapped in the Opel grille 😅 But maybe you'll inspire me to pull this off the top of my Pandemic Projects list and get it out of the way 🤔

Hey everyone, like Claudia said hers will be available eventually, but my wife is not the most patient woman in the world when it comes to her car not looking great... she washes that thing every time I turn around :) Anyone with a good used front upper grill willing to part with it drop me a PM please.

Thanks,

Keith
