The switch in my hatch failed because the dealer did not replace it after an accident 2 years ago. It got progressively harder to operate until it refused.
The back of the switch broke out. I replaced it, but before that I had to open the hatch. To do this, go to the junction box/fuse box under the hood.
Locate relay #14 labeled “Hatch”.
Pull the relay and using a jumper wire short the upper left contact to the bottom right (when standing at the front of the car, not the side). Do this for about 1/2s.
Hatch will pop.
