My family recently bought a house that has an OpenEVSE L2 charger outside the garage and a different brand L2 inside the garage . The OpenEVSE charger has never functioned correctly with our 2018 Bolt premier. The charger will continuously cycle on and off, causing lots of "Charge Interrupted" messages. We bought a 2019 Bolt premier last month and I figured I'd give it shot on the OpenEVSE. It worked perfect. Now I am questioning whether the charger has an issue or whether the 2018 Bolt is the cause of the charging failure. The car is not throwing any codes or messages, and has never had an issue with any other L2 charger. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot the source of the issue?

You may want to make sure what OpenEVSE you have. The official versions have firmware v4 of v5. OpenEVSE used to be a resource from which experimenters and small producers could create custom EVSE based on tested modules. You may not have an 'official' version. There are known incompatibilities, particularly with older versions and WV vehicles. See https://openev.freshdesk.com/support/home

Your next step, should you have a v4 of v5, would be to check the default menu programming. There are multiple alarms and limits that do not work with the Bolt such as venting tests. Again www.openevse.com is a good resource. Try to make the default programming as plain as possible; drop any type of time, current, or kWh limits. Your 2019 should similarly be set to plain vanilla when charging (Charging immediate).

Finally, should the OpenEVSE have Wifi capabilities, you can use it to monitor current, internal EVSE temperature and kWh to see if the 2018 with the OpenEVSE is acting differently than the 2019.
