I am about to receive my new 2018 Bolt in Toronto. I understand the US cars now have a Pedestrian Noise Generator which creates a noise emanating from the car when it’s driving slow speeds. Does anyone know if that also comes in Canadian car?
Check your driving laws. Every State and Providence may have different laws regarding the use of a "noise" for low speed vehicles. Here in Puerto Rico we have no need, so if I have an EV with this, I will disable it.:|I am about to receive my new 2018 Bolt in Toronto. I’ve never noticed the noise while driving, except when pulling into the garage with the windows down and the radio off.We have a Ford C-Max Energi and love the quiet of the vehicle. When we receive the Bolt, we’ll pull fuse 34 to disable the noise generator. It’s not a law to have it in Canada so it’s gone.
I love the sound of that noise generator. It makes Bolt EV sound like a space ship or UFO! It makes heads turn as people say WTF is that thing?
Dont disable that pedestrian alert sound or any Bolt EV safety system! Those systems are there because people have died and the Bolt EV design is written in auto mishap blood!
Not to mention seriously injuring or killing a pedestrian simply because you found the safety device built into the Bolt inconvenient. We should be looking out for one another. If one were to disable the noise maker, and then subsequently hit an unsuspecting pedestrian, you can say goodbye to your savings, house, car and anything else of value for the rest of your life.
Bet your bottom dollar that you will be successfully sued into oblivion.
In a way it's too bad that the reverse doesn't apply when someone wearing earbuds and staring at their smartphone walks into the side of your car...If one were to disable the noise maker, and then subsequently hit an unsuspecting pedestrian, you can say goodbye to your savings, house, car and anything else of value for the rest of your life.

In addition to these good points, you get used to it and it's really not that loud, or annoying. Not to mention seriously injuring or killing a pedestrian simply because you found the safety device built into the Bolt inconvenient. We should be looking out for one another.
It'll sound like George Jetson's car....I love the sound of that noise generator. It makes Bolt EV sound like a space ship or UFO! It makes heads turn as people say WTF is that thing?

There is no beep, beep. It is a quiet, white noise sound, like Darth Vader with asthma. I can barely hear it standing next to the car. If there is any other noise, nobody is going to hear it. Your wife isn't going to hear it in the bedroom, unless you live in a pup tent. It'll sound like George Jetson's car....
I'd disable mine... I leave for work two hours before my wife and the /last/ thing I want is some sort of backup alarm beep beep beep as I'm leaving the garage next to our bedroom.
No one had ever died because of the lack of this noise. There are ICE cars that are quieter than the Bolt at low speed. There is no proof this makes EVs safer.I love the sound of that noise generator. It makes Bolt EV sound like a space ship or UFO! It makes heads turn as people say WTF is that thing?

There is actually. NHTSA studied the matter. There is no proof this makes EVs safer.
You brought back a almost two year old topic just to say that?No one had ever died because of the lack of this noise. There are ICE cars that are quieter than the Bolt at low speed. There is no proof this makes EVs safer.
Not only that, it's the person's first post, immediately upon registering. shrugYou brought back a almost two year old topic just to say that?
There are blind people that will benefit from the noise generated.
Thanks for the info. There is actually. NHTSA studied the matter.
TDLR: "Overall, the odds ratios indicate that the odds of an HE vehicle being in either a pedestrian or bicycle crash are greater than the odds of an ICE vehicle being in a similar crash with odds ratios of 1.35 and 1.57 respectively, both of which are statistically significant with p-values under 0.01 percent."

Now our neighbors Leaf does do a beep, beep that I can hear across the road, if I am standing outside.
