fresh off the press from PCA (Porsche Club America) - Porsche all electric Cross-over DRIVEN - with some interesting take aways for Porsche's upcoming entry

https://www.pca.org/news/2018-06-19/video-driving-porsches-mission-e-taycan-cross-turismo-concept

the interesting bits that I took away from the video that is "new" information is below:

  • porsche center lock wheels on the concept - not clear if this would be production - but interesting
  • blue is a design "touch" for Porsche all electric cars
  • AWD with torque vectoring and RWS! should be epic
  • 90 kWh battery
  • very advanced infotainment - I've heard this before - Porsche is all in a world class all digital cockpit
  • more than 300 miles
  • sound that is authentic to the tech - switchable on/off like the sports exhaust
  • 300 charging stations by end of 2019 2/3rd will be 800 volt - hmm - aren't there about 300 dealerships in the US? if so not really useful - need road trip charging network!
  • two charging ports one on each front fender -hmmm - why? normal on one side - fast charger on the other?
  • frunk in the production version
  • lower center of gravity than a 911 - handling should be stellar!
  • instant acceleration like all EV's
  • fleet of electric boxsters in operation since 2008-2010
  • atonomous driving is in Porsche’s future
  • 2 inches of travel in the suspension

I'm sure all with a typical Porsche price tag and Porsche maintenance expenses too. Too rich for my blood, but it'll be interesting to see how this effects Tesla's sales of the Model S and X.

As an update (and bump), I got an email from the Porsche dealer asking for a $2500 deposit:

Good Evening,

You are on our mission e waiting list. Please click this link to fill out your information (where Porsche Dealer column, please select Gaudin Porsche of Las Vegas). A $2500 is required to complete your order. Please give me a call once you finished registered. Thanks!

After following up, I told him that it would be nice to know what the car will actually look like...and perhaps an approximation of the price within $20,000? He didn't know. He did however tell me that their dealership is about to begin the trench work for the electrical conduits for the 800-volt fast-charging station. This facility will "charge your Taycan up to 250 miles of range in 20 minutes". (I so wanted to ask him would that be 250 mile range in stop & go traffic, or 250 mile range sailing down the I-15 at 95MPH?) They are still sticking with Jan 2019...or sooner, for first deliveries. Again, I won't be holding my breath.

Unlike @daveo4Bolt, The odds of me pulling the trigger on something this expensive are 1 in 5000...unless it looks like the below...including the suicide doors. Then I may look into that 120 Month financing dealio. (AKA: Car Mortgage)

Edit:
  • two charging ports one on each front fender -hmmm - why? normal on one side - fast charger on the other?
I am almost convinced the ultra-fast-super-duper-charging is accomplished using [the] 2 connections simultaneously. Perhaps the battery pack is two individual packs? Consider having 2 stacked battery packs in the Bolt, each with their own charging port. This would reduce the charge time in half for the same range.

Suicide doors are nearly 99.9% confirmed as gone from the final design - the rest of the design elements are a subject of hot conversation on the Porsche forums - with many suggesting they will no purchase if the final product looks like a warmed over Panamera vs. the stunning concept car.
