I imagine someone my have been down this path before me. I have a 2017 Bolt. It had white CAV tickers issued to it. Early October 2018 I received my replacement red stickers. A week later I was in accident. Due to poor parts availability, I only got the car back today, and tyey were only able to salvage 1 red sticker.

I was filling out the forms to replace the stickers, and read the following:

Replacement decals will be the same color with the same expiration date that were initially issued to the vehicle.

Urk. I see what they are trying to prevent, but issuing me a white sticker (or no sticker at all) would suck. I'm fixing to send in the paperwork anyway, but wondered if others have tried to replace their stickers under similar circumstances.

Just include info on the red decals. Ignore the white ones.

Are those stickers mounted on the vehicle exterior? If so, they must be replaced with interior windshield types. As an example, my residential area (we cal it an urbanization) closed off the two main access streets in 1985 to put up private security with guards and controlled access (electric gates). We initially used a small remote transmitter to lift the gates for entry but they were easy to lose, and some residents bought extras to give to non-resident family members.

Last year the administration changed to special passive electronic stickers that are attached to the upper right (passenger) side of the windshield. The system works flawlessly and security has improved. This is similar to the toll sticker used worldwide (we have them, too). So if you need access to exclusive lanes, have the system reconfigured to these passive stickers that are placed inside the windshield. Just have each vehicle owner pay for the sticker cost. They should last the life of the EV, and they can be deactivated when the owner resells the EV.

The EV owner will have to order and pay for a new sticker only if the windshield is cracked or smashed.

I suppose I should have been more specific. I'm in California, and our stickers are are mounted on the outside of the vehicle. Three on the rear, and one on the front. Toll road access is through a different device, called an FasTrak (like an ez-pass).

I bought a Bolt in Jan 2017 and have white stickers. I never received any red ones later. I guess I haven't been paying attention. Do I need red ones?

Actually I looked back at my records and I sent their form into DMV in late October and my check cleared in the middle of December. I haven't received my new ones, so I am in limbo. How late is DMV in sending new ones?

Assuming you're in California, you do. The white ones were only good for a year, if issued in 2017. I was mailed a form by the DMV in September 2018, which was prefilled with my information. All I had to do was sign it and send it in with a check for $22. I had my new stickers within 3 weeks.

The new (red) stickers are good until 1/1/2022.

The new follow-on sticker is kind of a lavender color: https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/vr/decal

The new lavender decals are good through January 1, 2023. The lavender decals are being issued starting January 1, 2019 to new applicants whose eligible vehicle has never received a decal before. The age of the eligible vehicle and it's ownership are not the controlling factors: it's the vehicle's VIN and the date of issue of any existing CAV decal that determine eligibility for a decal.

You gotta love the DMV. I started this thread on 3/2/19, the day I sent in my form for sticker replacement. I've heard nothing from the DMV until Monday, when I got my renewal notice for my registration. This notice arrived 3 months late (due late February). 2 days later, my renewal application was rejected because it was too close to my renewal date, and my fees weren't paid.

California DMV is something else. We can only hope that the DMV in other states is better.

Recently, it was revealed that the members of the California State Legislature have a private DMV office in the capitol building, so they don't have to sit in line at a regular (badly overcrowded and slow) DMV office like the rest of the citizens of California.

Your renewal date is printed on the registration form.
The *month* it is due is indicated by a sticker on your plate.
Blaming anyone but yourself for not paying your vehicle registration is a cop out.

I have several times (over the past 40 years) not gotten a "renewal notice" and that has never caused me to miss renewing my registration. The month is *printed* on the license plate (OK, technically, printed on the *sticker* on the license plate).

Ha. The same fate befell me late last year, when the car registration was due within 30 days of the decal reissue, the decal application and check were rejected.

Wow, an actual DMV snowflake. Who knew such a thing existed?

At no point did I "blame" them. I noted it because I thought the timing was amusing

I have always received renewal notices from California DMV months in advance of the due date. They want my money as soon as they can get it. And I usually send it in months in advance. I'm just glad I don't need to get my Bolt smog checked. However, I do not appreciate the extra $100 annual fee imposed on EV owners in California.

Wonder if it was called 'The Smog Station Full Employment Act' or something.

It's not bad when you consider the state road taxes you'd pay on 12,000 miles worth of petrol in a 30mpg ICE. But I agree, it's counter-productive for those of us avoiding the dead dinosaur juice trend.
