I got these from Amazon and they’re pretty reasonable at around $70. I’ve never installed these before but they turned out okay even though I didn’t do a great job. The instructions were a bit lacking so I’ll give my experience to help anyone considering these.
The rain guards are sleek and low profile and match the design of the car really well. I haven’t noticed any difference in drag or wind noise after having them on for a few hundred miles. The main reason I got these is actually for safety, I like to keep my windows cracked at all times so I can hear other cars, people, dogs etc when making deliveries. They cover up most of the chrome except for the very front part which was also an added bonus for me and visibility was not impaired as much as I expected, just a small black line along the top of the windows. I will try and experiment with plasti dip to get rid of the remaining chrome up front and on the mirror to black out the entire side of the car.
For installation make sure you clean the trim thoroughly with the provided alcohol wipes and make sure the temperature is within range that the instructions say (68-104 degrees). I did mine when it was about 60 and it seems fine but I don’t think I got the best adhesion possible. Use a heat gun or hair dryer to warm up the trim before installing, this helps the adhesive stick to the trim. I only applied heat after I put the guards down, which I realized after the fact was not the correct way. Even with this mistake I’ve driven 80 mph with them and no issues yet.
peel an inch or so from each side of the adhesive backing when you stick them on. Test fit before you do anything, open and close the door so you know how they should look and not make contact. Once you have them lined up and tacked on, slowly peel the rest of the backing off while holding them in place with your other hand. Press firmly after you pull the tape. I only tacked on one end and the guards had a tendency to shift around as I was pulling the backing away, so a few pieces ended up misaligned but it’s not too noticeable. The instructions say that removing them might damage the trim and I really don’t want to do that and start over, so I just have to live with them the way they are. Also the instructions say don’t drive for 12 hours after you install, don’t go over 60mph for 24 hours and don’t wash or get the car wet for 48 hours. This gives the adhesive time to cure for the strongest bond. I followed this rule and even though I didn’t do a good job they seem pretty solid. Good luck!
