GM Recall N222383790

Received this one in the mail. Don't know why the recall # above is different than the one posted in Dec 2022.

Condition:
General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2020 – 2023 model year Chevrolet Bolt EV vehicles. In certain crashes that cause the front seatbelt pretensioners to deploy, the exhaust from the deployed pretensioner may ignite fibers in the floor carpet near the B-pillar. Following a crash that causes the seatbelt pretensioner to deploy, a fire may develop in the area near the B-pillar, which may increase the risk of injury.

Correction
Dealers will install metal foil at the carpet near the pretensioner exhaust

Got my letter today. Called, have an appointment for Feb. 2.

The service desk lady also said the recall for reprogramming had not yet been done. I told her it was done last year when we took the car in for a check up. She told me there was no record of the reprogramming being done. Hmm. Somebody fibbed or somebody forgot to enter the info into their system (same dealership we bought the car at).

There is a new software update for the original 80% software update.

Oh, She didn't say it that way. Sounds like work before I retired. Hey, meeting tomorrow morning to get ready for the meeting tomorrow afternoon. Then it became, meeting Monday morning to get ready for the meeting on Tuesday to get ready for the meeting on Thursday afternoon. It was time to go.

In the meantime, each time you go for a drive, you could pour some water from the ubiquitous water bottle, onto the carpet below the pretensioner. :sneaky:
In 50 years of driving, never had a crash serious enough to cause this kind of issue. I will wait!

I'd like to see what they actually do with the recall. If all they do is stick some of this on the carpet, I've got some in the garage right now and I'll do it myself and save the time and hassle.

Like they say, if it moves and shouldn't, duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, WD40!

While answering another thread, I found https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2022/RCLRPT-22V930-3401.PDF which mentions on page 2:
This issue was submitted to GM’s Speak Up For Safety (SUFS) program on September 15, 2022, following a
report of a 2018 model year Chevrolet Bolt EV in Korea that experienced a fire appearing to have originated in
the right-side lower B-pillar area. GM opened an investigation on October 24, 2022.

GM’s investigation identified a total of three potentially relevant field incidents in the subject vehicles involving
exhaust from a deployed pretensioner igniting carpet fibers near the B-pillar. GM received notice of these
claims on May 26, 2021, August 29, 2022, and October 17, 2022. On December 8, 2022, GM’s Safety Field
Action Decision Authority (SFADA) decided to conduct a safety recall
Bolt burst into an inferno after crash was dated Oct 16, 2022. I wonder if the Oct 17th claim is of that incident.

Ours too!

What final update? Do you have a new fire recall battery pack?
But I called my EV dealer today and they said the tape and foil fix was NOT available yet. Go figure. They said wait for the letter. Right...
Yes I have the new battery March 2022, and need the Aug 2022 fix for a fault that prevents charging past 30% if you're unlucky.

Right. That is the one that says, if the scan says you have one of these three cell numbers bad, it is software glitch. Has that happened to your Bolt?

GM changed the Recall UI along with the interpretation of the status. The FAQ says "Incomplete" means you call the dealership to schedule service... GM's web programmers decided "Incomplete" = "Incomplete, remedy not yet available" and groups them all into "Incomplete". How nice is that? NHTSA's website will show you the old fashion "Incomplete" and "Incomplete, remedy not yet available" statuses.

I've posted screenshots for the battery recall. I'm sure you can see this nonsense already, but it's linked below
