At a 4 way stop, I generally see the driver enough through the windshield. My windshield is actually tinted with the lightest film with high heat rejection, so it looks clear as oem. This makes the biggest difference IMO as the most heat comes through the giant windshield. I can say it made a huge difference in the last heatwave we had when it was 100+.

We have enough four way stops around here that are not at 90° angles. I need to be able to see the driver through the side window. And when next to a driver on my bike I need to see the driver through a side window, to know they see me, so they don't take a right turn into me, for example.

Minnesota law allows tints up to 50%. So I can't complain about tints up to that point, I guess. Anyone moving here with more tint than the law allows, has to remove it. Nothing is allowed on the windshield.

I agree with you fully...there are a number of scenarios when I need/want to make eye contact.
Ontario has similar tinting laws but never enforces them so we have lots of windows tinted so you cannot see anything through them.
We have a hands free rule for using you phone while driving so I suspect this super dark tint allows folks here to play on their phones without getting noticed.

In the Great Garden State, our law prohibits any level of tinting on the windshield and front driver and passenger windows. Many people tint it regardless as it is one of those laws that is never enforced unless there's an accident.

Same in Indiana but I did do 70% windshields on my last 2 cars, minimal darkening, major help with heat. I just cheaped out this time

I'm grateful for Minnesota state law at 50%, and disappointed that some of my fellow Minnesotans flaunt the law. It's not a frivolous law IMHO. It's a legitimate safety issue.

With a 50% limit, it looks pretty pointless for me to bother too. Factory is around 70-80%. Not a huge difference for the money.

Thanks! This was my 1st time with this guy, just 2 blocks from home and been in business for years. Seems to be good work but seems a bit darker than i'm used to for 35%, happy to have it done regardless
I have seen so many tint places come and go over the years, they all seem to give lifetime guarentees on the tint job but if the business only last 4 or 5 years then that does not help at all. I can’t recall any that have been in business more than 5 years around here.

I somewhat agree about the "worth" of the light 50% but going on top of already 70% glass I could be happy with it, mainly for the IR heat rejection that ceramic offers. Some people put a light ceramic tint on the factory rear tinted windows on SUVs just to reduce head input. I will be going back to my new tinter Monday to question my supposed 35%, it really looks like 20% to me, NOT what I asked for. I agree that I WANT others to be able to see me.

I kind of look at it differently, since the AC has less effect on range than the heater does I like the idea of the sun heating assistance in the winter to reduce how much I need to use the electric heater. But I do not have heated seats on my Bolt.

That's definitely how I look at it in Minnesota. And we are retired, so the car rarely sits out in the sun for long anyway. When at home, it's in the garage 100% of the time.

It's kind of nuts actually that we've had the car 5 days now, and it has all of 25 miles on the odometer. And we picked it up with 7 miles. 😳

That looks more like 35%. So did they just use the wrong film? Also, it looks lighter than 35% now but maybe because it's against a white wall. Can you take a pic without a white background?
Yep, he admitted to just using the wrong tint. I will take a picture in my normal parking spot when I get home for a proper comparison .

We stayed at the BW across the street from there 2 weeks ago. Nice area! Sadly drove the wifes Escape (not that is was bad, got 38mpg) but was tagging along with a relative towing a camper.
