Got a call from my dealer, looks like another BMS software update was released. Will we be going back to our dealers for software update every few months?!? Guess I will be helping myself to some free drinks from the sales floor. 😀

I did a quick search, but couldn't find if you have had the new battery installed. Is this software update for the new battery, or another fire recall update?

No, it’s not. Just the dealers.

If they are not, it is GM's responsibility to replace them.
In these days, it’s hard to get people to join a team in a game and you talk about replacing a whole (maybe) dealership. If things were so simple...
Weren't you the one who mentioned how a tech from a dealership who was schooled on working of Bolt EV, left because he found something better at a school ? Sorry, but if it was so simple as you say, it had been done a long time ago.

Yup. Which is why I think the legacy car companies are in deep trouble. They are making their money on the wrong products now, and their sales and service model came in when their selling horses.

Is anyone having to pay for Bolt EUV software updates? I watched a video this morning stating that they’re going to start charging over $100 /month for software updates. I’m trying to decide on whether to go with a bolt and this is pretty alarming info.

The only software updates I have heard of on the Bolt, so far, have been those pushed by GM to overcome problems they are responsible for. I can't imagine how they could possibly charge for any of those. If they plan to add "enhancements", they can charge what they like. If it was something I wanted badly enough, I suppose I might pay for it. My take is, if the car was good enough when I bought it, it is still good enough.

Um, take a look at the list of GM videos by this guy. Sounds like a short-seller. I'd take any "interpretation" by this guy with a boulder of salt.

To the main question, I think the projection is about OnStar revenue, not about OTA updates. Actually, providing OTA updates as part of OnStar might actually make it more worthwhile. GM, to date, has only provided one OTA update that I'm aware of, for the infotainment system.

I'm wondering if I actually received a OTA update of some kind last night. When I pulled out of the garage this morning, I noted the display indicating energy consumption since last full recharge (which I do every night, so it was "full" at the time) was showing 0 miles/kWh. It's never read zero before, as it has always had an estimate based on the last driving done. After I parked again and plugged in, when I left the garage again later it was now showing a number similar to before.

Just checked it again right now. It's again fully charged (80%) and the consumption number says 4.5 miles/kWh. This would be in line with the driving I did earlier today. Just for fun, I checked to see if the 80% hard charging limit was still there, and it was. I was hoping perhaps the software had determined my battery wasn't exhibiting the problems that would indicate a defective battery and give me some of the headroom back. No such luck.
