How many miles did your Bolt have on it? Wonder what the yearly fuel costs are going to be (Bolt vs. Altima).
Hey Dave The issue is less about fuel and more about range and fueling times. Driving Range for the Bolt 120-180 Winter...and to get back to 80% is 1 1/2. So for a year it will be fine. I was less worried with the Bolt over the Summer but do not want another winter in it.. which is just 6 months away here in MinnesoatHow many miles did your Bolt have on it? Your Uber application in worst case winter, yeah, we get it the Bolt was not a good fit. Having said that, I've had some Japanese cars which wouldn't put out enough heat to keep the windshield defrosted in worst case winter. YMMV.Hey Dave The issue is less about fuel and more about range and fueling times. Driving Range for the Bolt 120-180 Winter...and to get back to 80% is 1 1/2. So for a year it will be fine. The older model 2003 Altima didn't put heat into the cabin if the engine is idle. It has to move.
I learned that when I got stuck in the winter on the highway. The cabin was getting colder by the minuteI don't know whether Nissan have modified that design or not.
Also, the fuel injector pushes a lot of fuel when it's cold. So once you turn on the engine while cold, you'd better warm it up until the engine consumes the excess fuel from the injector. I learned that the hard way in the winter. I had run the engine for a minute before turning it off. Then I couldn't turn on the engine anymore. I had to call tow truck. The driver was really nice. He told me that secret, since he had had many encounters with Altima.

The 2015 Altima has a 2.5 4 cyl. standard. Unless the heating system is really terrible, heat output should be fine. I'm in Minnesota too, and I've had older Civics with the 1.6 and they were fine, as was my 2006 Mazda 3 with a 2.0.Your Uber application in worst case winter, yeah, we get it the Bolt was not a good fit. The other option is a Used Ioniq 5 ..if the prices fall like they should considering all the new ones coming out..including the Ioniq 6. I'd go with the Ioniq 5 simply for the amazing charging speed AND the fact that they add winter Pre heating for the battery@OneEV: I'm waiting for the Equinox, too. I saw the Bolt for what it was ... a Commuter ... and it would've been fine for me for that purpose ... but I've already got a zero-cost, fully-depreciated Commuter (2002 Impala, bought brand new, with almost 253,000 miles on it now). Didn't need another Commuter.
So ... we'll see what the Equinox brings. But I'm not holding my breath because I'm expecting the worst! The initial Equinox will have a totally "off-the-charts" price ... way more than I would ever consider paying for any automobile ... and then the mid-trim Equinox (that I'd be interested in) will very likely be pushing $40k ... and then it'll depend on how much I can get that number down.
But if they won't budge on it ... it'll be another gas vehicle for me. I don't care ...
Did those cars, by any chance, begin with the letter H? I recall it took my hybrid CRV about 7 minutes in the winter (in northern VA, not MN!) to start blowing lukewarm air, and it never got really warm. One of the reasons why I got rid of it before it even hit 20K miles.Your Uber application in worst case winter, yeah, we get it the Bolt was not a good fit. Hope I can get a Bolt next year. I live as far north as you do, but our western Washington state winters are warmer than yours, so I think my Bolt winters will be OK.…..specially since I’m retired. If the mornings are too cold, I just roll over in bed & go back to sleep. ☃⛄…..Minneapolis….My Bolt works great in the summer for running rideshare Uber/Lyft but pain in the backside fall, winterdid not want to do another winter with the Bolt .
How many miles did you have on the Bolt? What trim? How much did you sell it for?Sold my Bolt...wasnt planning on it until late winter early spring waiting for Blazer/Equinox.
Worked out great for both of us, he totaled his 2017 Bolt and wanted another for doing UBer Eats, he fly from Las Vegas to Minneapolis and drove it back to Las Vegas!.
I purchased a 2015 Nissan Altima until the Equinox comes out. Nice looking car , getting great MPG.. drover 304 miles and have 307 left 25% city /75% HWY

So the Altima just needs to get me by for a year as the Equinox is released

I had the Nissan Jatco CVT in my Dodge Caliber that was excellent. On many mountain pass slopes, it was wonderful, as it selected the perfect “gear” for all differing slopes & speeds.….Hope the CVT holds up in the Altima for the length of time the OP needs the car. It seems CVTs in Nissans…….have a bad rep.……I say this as being somewhat of a fan of Nissan…….
I don't know if the prices on those are coming down soon. The Hyundai and Kia owners generally think it's still 2020 and their car is an investment that will go up in value. Hella frustrating because I'd love to get an EV6, but can't justify dropped 50-65 grand when I'm working from home. So I'll just keep getting coffee in my Volt. The other option is a Used Ioniq 5 ..if the prices fall like they should considering all the new ones coming out..including the Ioniq 6. I'm not sure it's going to be as bad as it would be for a new ICE paltform. They've already had plenty of years with the Bolt batteries as well as lessons learned about battery fires, etc. Hopefully those lessons learned will apply to the Ultium platform. As far as mechanical, hopefully the larger more heavy vehicles will get heavy duty engineering. I suspect that I'll have less issues with the Ultium platform than I did with my Saturn that came with the first supercharged 4-banger and performance suspension. I'm looking forward to having a larger vehicle that isn't going to be subject to expensive gas prices.Sure you dont want to wait 2yrs to let them work the bugs out of that new platform?
But it is going to be subject to a much higher up-front purchase price (for the same size-class ICE vehicle) ... so you have to overcome that up-front over-payment before you can say you're saving any real money ...I'm looking forward to having a larger vehicle that isn't going to be subject to expensive gas prices.
