When Chevy called this a “subwoofer”

It doesn't need to move a lot of air in order to reproduce low frequencies. It just needs to be able to move the voice coil relatively slowly, and have a decent throw. Resonance chambers and baffles can do wonders for a smallish sub. Coupled with a decent set of mids, tweeters and super-tweeters (which the Bolt Premiere has), the audio system in a Premiere does a pretty good job of sound reproduction.

I don't give a rat's patootie if the guy in the next car can hear my sub going "thump, Thump, THUMP!" In fact, as I'm often the guy in the next car hearing an adolescent's car approaching with massively clipping subs that sound terrible, I'd rather not be able to hear it in the next car.

Is that the Bose System sub?

It's rather pathetic on older music, it's just okay with modern electronic/dance music because they have very elevated low freq levels from the get-go.
Try it on some 60's and 70's music... it sucks!

I'm with GregBrew on this one. I like the Bose system. I suppose if you want to listen at 120db you are going to be disappointed. At any level that I find comfortable and that is unlikely to damage hearing, I think it sounds fine. To add to GB, a large part of, and probably the most difficult part of the sound system to engineer is the cross over network. This makes sure the correct frequencies go to the correct drivers at the correct volume. It's why swapping out random speakers in car for say, bigger ones, is almost always going to sound worse, even though personal preference may mean an individual may prefer a louder boomier bass rather than one that reproduces the music more accurately.

I never said anything about anybody else's butt, I said I need to feel it in my butt, and that is a job that the stock sub simply is not up to at all. Don't care how much throw it has or how carefully Bose engineered it. It sucks at being a subwoofer. Even with a modest volume level on the new powered pioneer sub and line-in converter, I can feel frequencies the Bose never knew existed.

Why does wanting good low end bass make everyone assume i'm an ******* who cranks it to 120db? There is a big difference between caring about low end and trying to blow out eardrums through RUTHLESS volume settings. Let me reassure you all: that latter one is not me. I just want decent lows man.

Yeah that’s the Bose “premium” system sub.

Most of the electronic music I listen to is remixes of old 60s/70s or that dubstep kinda bass that is really wide. It was failing on everything except jazz for me.

Probably because we've been in traffic next to cars with massive bass speakers that actually cause headaches (in my car) and comments like yours indicate that you might be the sort of person who appreciates that much bass. Sorry, I didn't mean to offend, but I REALLY hate listening to other people's music in my car and bass carries well. To each his own. I generally prefer listening to music rather than feeling it. The exception is a big double bass (acoustic) in a concert hall. You can feel that in your chest and no amplification is required. I'm sure they exist, but I've never encountered a music system to reproduce that no matter how loud the bass is.

I hope you get you music systems sorted out.

I am a music producer and I will not ever settle for a range that can’t go deeper than 70Hz, at ANY volume. When I stand outside my car with the music on it is NOT one of those cars shaking the earth, as I said before: I don’t do that. Mincing my butt sensing comment will not illuminate for you the kind of person I am. And yet, you all seem to have assumed exactly who I am and what motivates me!

The Bose "Premium System" in the Bolt is far from an audiophile's dream come true :crying:

No one should begrudge your desire for solid (not ridiculous ghetto busting) bass.

If my commute was longer or I spent more time in my Bolt... I'd be upgrading that "Premium system" sub too!

Yah, I hear you. When I first got the Bolt Premier and hooked my ipod in, I wondered "WTF? Where's the subwoofer!!?" The salesman showed it to me and I started laughing. The sound system in my former C-MAX ENERGI (Sony) had more power. We tinkered with the levels a bit till I was satisfied but they should've used someone else.

Nobody is even listening to what I’m saying you all just keep repeating your assumptions about me. Wtf is with this forum? It’s like the worlds epicenter of confirmation bias about automobile purchases

Probably related to the whole "feeling it with your butt" thing. Jus' sayin';)

I have to agree that "Bose blows." Although the system in the Bolt I find fairly decent. Sounds better than the Bose system in my wife's Miata. Fer cryin' out loud, Bose, couldn't you use something other than a 3" speaker?

My first surround sound system was a Bose. I thought it was great. Until one day I was out on the deck listening to the same music on my outdoor speakers that was playing inside on the Bose speakers. I clearly heard a triangle from the outside speakers, it was totally missing out of the Bose. As you said, "No highs, no lows, must be Bose. "

I gave the system to my friend for Christmas. His hearing isn't that great. He was ecstatic. Got myself a Definitive Technology speaker system. MUCH better.

Has anyone here been able to add an aftermarket amplifier and speakers to the stock bose system?
I am with the majority of you all that think the Bose system is a little lacking in sound quality and output.
I do not want to install a line output converter at the speaker level outputs of the Bose amplifier.
It would induce more distortion into the system than I'd like.
Thanks in advance for any guidance.
