Thoughts on how long the EV will remain available?

I am looking to buy a Bolt EV and am trying to decide whether I need to snap one up now or if I can afford to wait. I have seen the news that 2023 will probably be the last model year, but I can't get a straight answer from the dealer what that means in terms of when they will be sold out.

Anyone who recently bought or ordered the EV, have you heard anything about this? Is Chevy even still accepting orders?

It is all rumors, nothing official from GM on the future of Bolt EV or EUV. The fact that they are ramping up production suggests there may be renewed interest in keeping Bolt in the lineup, but EUV sales are outpacing EV, so who knows. Delays with new Ultium models due to slow ramp up of factories may also prolong Bolt's life.

Most rumors have EUV hanging around a year longer than EV... but they are all just rumors. Nothing unlikely to happen till end of 2023 model year run which means late spring/early summer.
I wouldn't be surprised if Chevy stopped producing the EV and only kept the EUV in 2023. It would work like a price increase without changing the MSRP. Sort of like how the Kia EV6 just eliminated the base model, making it effectively $7100 more expensive. It's clear there is much higher EUV volume than EV based on what I see in inventories.
I would personally order one sooner rather than later (I did, in fact.) With the tax credit changes and price increases of every other EV out there, the Bolt's are going to get snapped up quick...
I've wondered why the EV is still being produced for '23. Is there any logic to it? Is the EUV that much more in cost to GM? Factor in configuring the line to produce each variant.

Hard to analyze since you did not tell us your current need vs. reasons to wait.

In any event, I purchased one in summer 2019 after my leased 2017 was projected to run out of miles in mid-September and with the new battery replacement (officially 259 miles, but with my driving pattern, 270 miles), I don't look back!

Funny enough I had an order for a top trim GT-L AWD - and was willing to spend the money. Kia is having serious issues building... well anything right now it seems. I placed two orders at two dealerships in April. 6 months later neither the dealer or Kia corporate could tell me anything more than "your car hasn't been built yet". These were high volume dealers too - tracking their shipments out of S Korea by VIN, Texas as a whole was only getting maybe 5 GT-Lines a month (now zero)

Cancelled both orders and hit the ground looking for a 22 EUV -- took delivery a month ago and LOVE IT bonus, I saved $20+k cheaper to boot. And that's before dealing with any of the insane markup games some Kia places are doing (even worse than the GM)

Thanks for your input everyone. I pretty much expected that we don't know the answer yet, just thought I'd try asking.

To clarify, the few dealers I have visited so far have all but refused to let me place an order, leaving me to wait until I can find one in stock with features/color matching my wants. (Whether or not that's a good strategy is a different topic!)
The Bolt was never meant as a money maker. Originally it was a stepping stone to an all EV lineup. They learned a lot from it, they tried OTA but had issues, so when they do OTA for real with the Silverado I expect it will be down pat now. Many design features are being carried forward, the entire safety system (which used to be Premium trim only), the dash charging light, oh a bunch of other little things I found that survived into the next gen.

Anyhow I think it was also a market prep for EV’s, and was supposed to be done by now, but with this and that, and the Bolt suddenly becoming really popular, they‘re using it as a platform to get the market really primed for Ultium cars. Worked with me - I have a Silverado reservation.

I’ll guess that it will grandfather when Ultium is really being produced, say 2025.
Define your needs and wants and budget.

None of the near-term EVs are anywhere near the Bolt in size and cost. Not everyone wants or needs a large, long-range, expensive EV.

Sure enough my dealer is sold out of all Bolt EV inventory
2040? I expect a few to still be on the road by then, probably at bargain prices.
