About a week ago I reported that my 2019 Premier (4,000 miles) had suddenly lost about 60% or more regen effectiveness when in “L” mode, or when I used the paddle. Took it in to the dealer today, and, as promised, here is the result:

THERE WAS/IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY BOLT!

The bottom line is, when I had removed the driver’s side floor mat (3D MAXpider) about a week ago, to clean it, I had reinserted the mat incorrectly. It (the mat) was putting pressure on my accelerator pedal, thus causing the malfunction. I really like this mat, so the fault is all mine. Simply “operator error.”

From the tech’s report:

“Found an aftermarket floor mat incorrectly installed on top of the accelerator pedal. If even a slight amount of pressure is on the accelerator pedal it will reduce regenerative braking. Reposition floor mat….”

Quick shout-out to Prime Chevrolet Hyannis. The intake guy in service, Justin, couldn’t have been more helpful. He made sure I was happy with the result, and had me take a test drive. Told me if I still had an issue we’d both go in to the tech to see about it.

Anyway, that’s my story. Hope it’s of some help to someone else.

Fantastic to hear that you got it resolved, and personally very appreciative that you followed up on the forum to post the resolution.

I'm sure this will benefit others, the way you described the issue it was definitely a curiosity for me as to how it would be resolved...

I doubt your problem is "fixed". I've had my 2018 (now 19k miles) in too two different dealerships a total of _ times to no avail. With the tech in the vehicle at the 2nd dealership I was able to get the car to replicate the issue. He checked the tech bulletins for recalls, any other mentions of the issue and told me he would have to do more research. That was a week ago. The original mats are in the car. The problem is intermittent and usually happens after the car has been sitting for several hours. The amount of charge on the battery does not affect the issue . I've had several near misses at stop signs when the regenerative braking didn't kick in.

I just wanted to double check that your issue is occurring at times when the car's charge is below 90% It's well known with the Bolt that regen is limited when the car is charged to 100%, and it does causes some surprises for the unwary.

At track days locally here, the instructors will make you pull out your mats.. It's no joke, if everything goes precisely wrong a floor mat can kill. I'm sure its happened.

I thought L mode had been broken on my 2020 Bolt after the replacement of the battery due to the recall. But now I know it’s because it’s been a year since I’ve been able to charge the car to 100% and L mode was only not working after charging.
