I believe that the Volt can teach us a lot about what to expect from the Bolt when it comes out. The Volt has an electric engine that has a backup gasoline engine to assuage people's range anxieties. As such, the Volt has two separate ratings, 106 mpg-e for the electric motors and 42 mpg for the engine/generator.

The guys at TFL bet that the Volt would actually get 75 mpg or better when tested in the real world. Check out the video below to see if they're right.

If you do the math, they got 42 MPG after the gasoline engine kicked in. That's a good result for 40 degree F weather at 75 MPH. The Gen 1 met or exceeded its EPA ratings and it seems the Gen 2 should do the same.

68mpg is pretty good and it was done in the cold. One comment stated that they saw a higher mpg number during the summer. The Volt could very well hit 75mpg if it was warmer.
