Hello. New to the forum, but having the same issue with my 2017 premier, but its now just out of warranty. Did you ever get your issue fixed? Did the leak originate from the roof rails? Any info would be greatly appreciated.Hi! 2019 Opel Ampera e owner here. (European Chevy Bolt).
I found this forum because I have just put my car into the shop to repair a water leak. And I was looking to see if this was a problem in other Bolts/Amperas. Luckily, I caught my leak about six weeks after purchase in mid September '19.
The water leaking into my car is most likely coming from the storage box mounting rails on the roof, and exiting into the back area through the interior molding. So, the shop is going to have to completely remove the inside ceiling, so they can see underneath, and find out how badly the metal is stressed to see if they can fix the leak. I do intend to immediately upon receiving the car, check the well where the amplifier is! ( I did not know about the amplifier all the way down in the trunk well...) It does not look like an area that will dry out quickly.
However I am hopeful that it won’t be too wet since I had some blankets in that lower compartment that absorbed most of the water.
Anyway, if you want to check, put some paper towels in the rear compartment, next to the side walls next time it rains. I could literally see the water dripping from that back upper panel seam in my car.
I am hoping they can repair it, as I really like my Ampera!
Cheers!
Buddy J
I had this issue in my 2017 Premier. The leak originated from the tailgate seal, not the roof rails. Chevy replaced the gasket and it has not been a problem any more. In my case, I was still under warranty so I don't know how much it would cost you out of pocket.Hello. This is a manufacturer's defect and a safety issue in my opinion as turn signal sounds and safety alerts don't work when the amplifier is shorted out. The amp went out in my 2019 Bolt and I found the wheel well full of water and corrosion on the amp. Chevy Canada says it is out of warranty and will offer me a 25% service discount only. More people should report this as a safety defect.Recently experienced some crackling and pops in the sound system. (Note: wish the system had an OFF button.) Found water in in the bay deep in the trunk where the amplifier lives. GM repaired under warranty - apparently there was a seal failure in the compartment, allowing water in.
Recommend, if you experience snap/crackle/pop in sound system to inspect the trunk well and get the water out.
Submitted a report, my 2017 bolt just had the stereo amp die, started out as one speaker, then intermittent, now nothing. This is a manufacturer's defect and a safety issue in my opinion as turn signal sounds and safety alerts don't work when the amplifier is shorted out.
