Checked on my 1+yo Bolt... same only more rust.

Looks like it's the solid axle shaft for the right side front tire. Shouldn't be a problem as it's covered by a sealed/greased CV joint/boot on the outboard end and a protected seal on the inboard end.

Yup. Just looked at ours. Surface rust on the big steel axle. Nothing to worry about. Have you ever looked at the drive shaft under a RWD car?

There is one part in this whole car worth worrying about. It is 25% of the car by weight, and 33% by cost. And it starts failing before it is installed in the car. Get Torque Pro, and check your battery capacity.

Yup. Mine's aluminum and still shiny. But the steel u-joint sticking out of the differential has shall we say a "patina". Much classier than calling it rust.>:)
My advice is don't put the Bolt and look at the underside. Some things were not meant to be seen.
