What should I do if the Chevrolet dealer does not know how to provide EV Tax Credit documentation?
We recently took delivery of our new 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV. I asked the Chevrolet salesman about documentation from the dealer for the EV Tax Credit as described in Instructions for Form 8936 (01/2023) | Internal Revenue Service which say:
“The seller of new clean vehicles (including fuel cell vehicles) will provide a report to the purchaser providing information needed to claim the credit including the following.
The purchaser’s name and taxpayer identification number.
The vehicle’s VIN.
Verification that the original use of the vehicle begins with the purchaser.
The maximum new clean vehicle credit allowable for the vehicle.”
The salesman said that he wasn’t aware of any documentation that the dealer needed to provide besides the purchase agreement, which I have. He also said that they have only sold one to two Bolts and he didn’t know much about them since the training that he received on Bolts occurred last year.
Does anybody know more about this dealer documentation and what to do if the dealer doesn’t know about it?
Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions.
