I took my 2018 Bolt for a battery software recall a couple of months ago. Since then it got cold. I noticed that the maximum charge on my battery does not go over 140 miles. Since when it was warmer it would charge to 240 miles I took it in for evaluation at Chevy.
They went over it for a day and told me that everything is fine and that the range was low because I used the steering wheel warmer and heater and seat heaters. I had set the heater temp to 85 degrees when I took it in because the heater wasn't doing the job that day. They blamed that I was using too much power.
So I turned down the heat to 72 and stopped with the steering wheel and seat heaters but it still won't charge over 132 miles where it says it is fully charged.
Can that be right?

Your advice was offered by graduates of good old MSU, a school with too many alumni.

That does seem unusually low. More data would help. What's the ambient temperature you're driving in, your typical speed etc.?

All EV's suffer from range drop in cold weather; the two main culprits are the lower efficiency of the battery and the need to spend some energy to heat the cabin. Comparing to those two the energy, necessary to heat the seat and the steering wheel, is negligible.

The 140 mi/charge is low, but it is not out of ordinary. Also keep in mind that DCFC is also slower in cold weather (count on 30% slower rate).

I don't think the heated steering wheel or seats are going to impsct range too much. However the HVAC system will. Try turning the "heat/ac" button off and notice how much the range goes up when you do that. Also, check your tire pressure. I noticed a pretty significant gain by inflating my tires over 40psi. The cold will decrease PSI all by itself, so you maybe need to inflate your tires once winter hits.

You don't say where you are, but that might be normal for the weather, if it's cold enough.

My range was 156 when I picked it up from the dealer (early Dec.). It went up to 180 and is now down to <120.

I would expect the car needs to relearn its driving history due to the maintenance.

If you are nervous, calculate your mi/kwh and see if that is normal for you. You can also use the pie chart to separate driving vs heating. I'm normally 80% driving 20% heating. (I'm in MN and it's -30F here) When it was warm (+10F or higher), I was 90% driving, 10% heating. If you're not higher than that, then the theory of you're heating too much is not correct.
