Hello,
Has anyone had a chance to try the yakima fullback? Say's it's compatible, but was curious about what user experiences and quirks.

I would not use a rack like that, unless the spoiler on the newer Bolt models is much sturdier than my 2017 is. I'm pretty sure if I put a rack like that on my 2017 it would end up damaging or just straight up pulling the spoiler off.

My understanding is that it's tagged as compatible because most of the weight would be on the bumper lip, less on the top hatch door and little or none on the spoiler. But I want to be sure it won't damage anything

Looks like the lower support would act as a fulcrum rather than a support, so the weight of the bikes would pull strait back on the spoiler instead of pulling down... not an improvement! No way would I put that thing on my car.

Found the info I needed on the Yakima site. The person that installed it in the picture above installed it incorrectly. The yakima site shows how it should be done and it does completely avoid the spoiler. This is essentially the setup I had on a volvo v50 for the last several years and it worked great.

Looks like, assuming installed correctly it would avoid putting pressure on the spoiler. The picture I saw was similar to the second one you linked which looked dangerous for the spoiler.

I still wouldn't use one like that though, never been confident enough in fabric straps to hold my bikes and i'm also not a fan of the top tube rack style, I prefer both wheels and top tube to be secured.

If you are looking for something less permanent than a roof rail rack or a trailer hitch mounted rack I would suggest these Seasucker racks I have a bunch of friends who have used them for years with no issues, I have one myself I use on my other cars.

Haha, oh boy. I think I'm the opposite of you. I trust fabric straps (or nylon straps... same material used in seat belts, heavy duty truck tie downs and lifting slings) much more than suction cups.
But yes I'm looking at these alternatives because the car is a lease so I'm not sure they'd let me install a hitch (because it requires cutting the bumper fascia) and with my shoulder issues I don't think a roof rack is an option unfortunately. My favorite option used to be bike inside the car, but sometimes I have two bikes and it's much easier to strap them on the back.

My concern with straps isn't the strap itself failing, its all the connections. Those are the weak points of those racks. The only bike racks i've ever seen fail were of that style.
