So I used the defroster the first time last thursday, its apparently working fine, but the Driven Information screen keeps coming up with the Service Heater message. Called Onstar they said the diags are all clear, but I figure I better take it to the dealer anyways, its probably a software glich but rather know for sure. Planning on a big adventure trying to get the Bolt to Taos, NM and back along a long and mostly unpopulated route rom AZ. (According to my plan I'm gonna be having to stop 5-6 times to charge, ouch) Will be needing a working defroster for sure.

Have you taken a look at the coolant levels? The cabin heater is the one closest to the passenger side of the engine bay.
Thank you, I checked and it looks just fine. Given everything works and the diagnostic test is all green, my guess is it's a false positive on the part of the Driver info Screen, but taking it to the dealership today. Its a 10 min walk from my place and an excuse to work from home.

I found a reddit thread where three people mentioned the same issue with their 2022's. According to one report, the dealer had to replace the entire control module. (Difficult and expensive, but that's what a warranty is for I guess). Bad timing as I'm supposed to take it on a road trip starting the 18th :/

It happened after I remotely started it, so my guess is while the heater itself is fine, the auto cabin conditioning is not. In any case back to the dealer she goes.

As expected, it needs a new Heater Control Module. 7-10 business days to order from Detroit, they said it would be fine to drive in the meantime so I guess I'm taking it to New Mexico without the remote climate conditioning operational, should not be an issue. The heater and defroster themselves are working normally.

Called the dealer, part order was moved to Back Order status: # of parts available 0. Good times. It's not a huge deal as I just manually turn on the defroster 10-15 mins before its time to head out, but bleh.

That answer always befuddles me. Like they are building new EUVs in Lake Orion without a heater control module?
They are clearly available but somebody needs to get their head out of somewhere and ship one out.
You answered your own question. They are prioritizing rolling out new vehicles over spare parts. Not real happy about it, but its not impacting my daily commute much.

It's sad, and even more so as it was preventable. At least the Bolts are still built in MI albeit with some supply chain parts from overseas. (The powertrain is mostly Korean for instance)
