Hi everyone! No, I’m not a new member… I have been here for awhile, and I’m sure my propensity for over-sharing is probably annoying, but I am just dying to introduce the newest member to our Bolt family. Here we find Bugs now able to fit in the garage with the new sibling 2023 EUV 2LT that my wife Frances has affectionately named “Daffy.”

Bugs left and Daffy right

Image

It’s raining today so I will load some pictures of the new car later.

we bought both cars from Steves Chevrolet of Chowchilla; about ~53 miles from our house. There is a closer Chevy dealer in Patterson, but I will only use them for service if even that. Too long of a story why for right now. Todd, our salesman is literally the best car salesman I have ever met. I wouldn’t change a thing about him, and he has my ongoing endorsement for getting the best deal anywhere around here. This dealship group has a zero markup policy, so anyone in Northern California can call this guy if you can’t find anyone who isn’t trying to extract money for buying these hard to locate Bolts (it’s both good and bad to be so popular).

Image

So thank you Todd for another happy purchase. This makes #4 for us. That is what a symbiotic business relationship is all about!

Now for some direct comparisons between an EUV premier and an EUV 2LT sans Conviniece Package (Daffy does not have leather seats or the 2LT wheels). Daffy has the Comfort and Driver’s packages that are an economical way to get the features that really count and yet keeping the MSRP under $30k. In fact it was $29680 which includes the tire inflator kit

Image

So what does getting the premier package add? I am not going to list absolutely everything, but the black/bright version of the exact same wheels

Image

Image

I never realized that the only difference is color. The next thing is that the 2LT doesn’t have the bird’s eye view on the backup screen, and it doesn’t have the rear view mirror video view. I see 2 less cameras on the 2LT. The premier has a forward camera mounted in the bezel of the front grille and the 2LT doesn’t

Image

Image

In the rear the premier has a camera at the top of the rear window that the 2LT doesn’t

I love it but don’t need it as I expect our combined annual mileage will be ~ 7-8k for both. Pretty pathetic but retirement changes the whole mileage log. But that’s very cool.

Maybe we have to flip for who goes first when they both need to get charged. But they both take the 40A output of my Bosch that I have had for a few years more than a Bolt of any sort. We bought a 2013 Volt and were very impressed by it. Every Bolt has been a joy without any issues at all which is a first for almost 10 years even though I decided to keep charging them because I wanted the latest model.

And Summit White is still the favorite after the Veridian Joule 2013 Volt. We liked being different in the Volt and incognito in the Bolt(s) LOL

That is the exact reason why my wife chose the cloth over the leather. She sat in a cloth EUV for about 15 minutes to let me know that she absolutely wanted cloth.

I might point out that my dear wife has been permanently disabled and handicapped since 1990 before I even met her.

My wife is a great source for comfort as she is fused from the pelvic bone to the mid-thoracic which was done in 2017 at the UCSF medical center, as the most advanced spine surgery west of the Mississippi. She can walk without need for a cane because she is determined to stay as able as she possibly can. I could only hope my boring medical record could have her determination.

So I'm in the market for an EUV in the new year and am trying to decide between a Premier with no additional options or an LT with both the Driver Confidence and Comfort packages. For me, heated front seats and wheel are must-haves but getting leather, front seat ventilation, rear seat heaters, rear camera mirror, and surround cam are potentially (maybe?) worth the ~$3K higher price of the Premier trim level. That said, probably the biggest thing pushing me towards the Premier is the fact that I'll likely be able to find one in dealer stock (eventually) whereas this LT configuration is almost guaranteed to be a special order.

I'd be curious about your (and other folks') take on the utility of the surround cam versus the standard backup camera?
Same for the rear camera mirror. I've never used one and I'm not sure why that'd be useful unless you had the cargo area stacked high enough with stuff to block rear visibility.

Hi!
Using the configuration tool for the EUV, start with LT and then add with both driver’s confidence and the comfort packages and you have configured my wife’s car which the window sticker says is a 2LT. I believe that some possible other differences are not listed on the configuration tool but will show up on the build sheet. I didn’t save mine. I was not expecting roof rails as example.

My EUV is a premier with S&S. It had a very high MSRP that I could go look at the saved window sticker if anyone was interested, but I obtained it as a trade repurchase car for a recalled battery 2020 EV. There is plenty of info on this on this forum, but doesn’t apply to any Bolt built after August 20 2021 so don’t worry about that.

To answer your question about the Birds Eye view view on the camera, that is only on a premier. It requires a camera that is not on a lower level. TBH, I have turned it off as I have no children or outdoor pets to worry about and the full screen backup view offers a wide angle that is much better than the bird’s eye to see any neighbors children or anything else because it can see the ground righ where my closed garage door was. So I actually only use it for parking lots that I still will look using my eyes first poor to looking at the backup. Since I very recently started turning off the birds eye I have been preferring it In almost every situation. I am not just saying it because I do consider it as a worthwhile option if the overall price tag was lower. It is definitely a “premium” increase in GM’s profit margins that they hope most people will pull the trigger on the highest level.

So by my appraisal, the better and possibly best value (bang per buck) is the 2LT sans leather. The base LT is too “fleet vehicle” for me.

Re-read my post #1 for direct comparisons that having the 2 levels sitting right next to each other opens up a very new appreciation for the under $30k configuration of my wife’s EUV. I am also just going to state right now that the cloth seats are definitely more comfortable in winter than the leather in the premier. They are slightly softer and feel better while sitting in them, I would like to deny it but honesty prevents me.

But in summer is going to be different. I absolutely adore the ventilation, and I am guessing that when summer is here the cloth is not going to win the comparison then. The cloth also looks to be very durable, which is a point of my desire for leather as the winner of the endurance race.

The video center mirror gets mixed reviews here. Some love. Some are meh. Count me in the meh camp. Another bell/whistle that is questionable for practical use. The side views are what to look at; the guy behind you is responsible for not hitting you no matter what you do, and I actually find them annoying and specifically tail gaters that I purposely move the mirror arounduntil I can’t see them before I get mad which is not ideal at all. I don’t know why other people are so important about directly behind because we can do basically zero except scrunch-down for the impact. The headrests take care of that better than getting low IMHO.

The ultimate decision is up to the individual. I would suggest looking carefully at both models if you can find a dealer actually having both unicorns that aren’t already sold.

Good hunting and I would give “the top of the hatalo hat to the 2LT for having the essentials and the low price. The premier gets the nod for the guy that has to have all the gizmos and toys by enough to justify the outlay, and you only live once.

But I am going to do the Mick Jagger rooster strut and say that a pair beats an Ace every single time 😝

That’s what I’m saying. What’s up with the lesser level being more detailed and less “chrome-y” than the high priced model? That’s what got me thinking about doing this direct comparison. Gotta have both sitting right next to each other to really see what these differences are.

That said, the lack of the two cameras is a very obvious downgrade for the 2LT. It doesn’t have LKA either, but I am glad that it does have blind zone alert. That is a very good safety feature. The LKA is something that makes me feel like I might like to turn it off TBH. I don’t like the car nudging me just as a rule of thumb. I guess it’s good to know that I am close to a centerline. But sometimes I am avoiding potholes and I have to go over the line. There is obviously no cars coming or I don’t do it. It is just annoying because the car thinks it knows what I am doing but doesn’t.

It’s a similar feeling that I get while sitting at a stoplight when everyone is being stopped for the direction that nobody is going. Unless someone comes and THEN it changes.

We like our EUVS.

Sometimes lack of detail is a good thing. I have always followed the rules of “Form Follows Function” In that simple is better.

And then I see an English luxury car interior with real exotic hardwood and hand-stitched leather of the highest quality. I would love to have a Rolls Royce interior. I am not the chauffeur driven person but put that detail in my car and I will feel like King Charles after Mom finally gave him his day on the throne (I have heard that she purposely didn’t want to give it up to her problematic son).

I really like this richness that can be seen in the 911 Porsche interior of today. I was really impressed by my brother’s 2018 Carrera 4S. Not busy but just perfect and everything is the real McCoy. The seats are to die for in their perfection of comfort and the leather is top notch. Probably off the same cow that was Prime Choice beef 🥩

Those are punctures from the needle going through the fake plastic Naugahyde-looking outer surface.

There’s nothing wrong with liking what we individually like. I still like leather in general. The faux finish of the perforated leather look is not easy to duplicate with anything other than leather. I think they tried.

Fender Guitars has a custom shop where they purposely make a Guitar try look like Keith Richards 1950- something Butterscotch Blonde Telecaster. They even wear the fretboard to look like millions of miles of fingers wearing it down. People pay extra for this. But only Keith plays like Keith. But they can fool people into thinking that they have a guitar that now auction for tens of thousands of dollars for an authentic Fender or Gibson from the fifties that originally cost about a hundred bucks. Keith’s actual Tele will never be sold while he is alive and I would wager that he has already set it up to go to a museum. It would fetch more than a million because of the history of that guitar.

Big sidetrack about faux finishing and why some people like old looking stuff. Because it’s rare is the only reason. Like baseball cards from the early days.

I am actually starting to get envious of my wife’s car.

I think it’s too late to say “I am going to give you the premier with S&S my love, because I cherish you and want you to have the upgrade car. I will make do with the lowly 2LT 🥹.”

Rats. I would have had to do that before we went and got it 😖

I know right? Exactly what I thought while we drove it home. And when I checked in Bugs, I got a frownie-face, and also looked at the ugly chrome slash on the rocker panels. I was kind of envious of my wife’s car and wondered which designer at GM is responsible for making the most premium priced version look worse than the cheap version. Somebody needs a refresher course in learning what the public wants and it’s not chrome trim 🤮

I'm sure I'll agree on every point and so far, that's what I've experienced on test drives. These things concern me because seat comfort has changed so much. I remember the loose pillow velour and soft, thick leather of Cadillacs and Lincolns of the '70s and early '80s and the incomparable Rolls Royces. My last great leather seats were in my '85 Cadillac Fleetwood. And of course as I get much older, nothing seems comfy anymore. And yes when I was young, I would ride motorcycles all winter in Canada, even on the coldest nights possible and major snowstorms too. No way now. My main ride being a GMC Canyon truck has been a fantastic vehicle but I always hated the very stiff leather seats. The cloth seat version is absolute murder. You wouldn't believe how bad it is. Anyway, thanks for sharing. It makes me look even more forward to delivery day.

One last thing on leather versus cloth: I like the look of leather. It’s not as comfortable as the cloth seats if I am going to be completely honest about it. The turn off for me is that cloth usually gets soiled easily and wears-out sooner as a general trend, and that is a big feature for leather. Leather wears like iron. But some leather is more comfortable than others. The best leather seats I have ever had were the seats in the top level ‘87 Ford Taurus that had butter soft high quality leather. The leather in a Bolt is crap leather. It’s stiff and the cloth in Fran’s car is very durable looking. I think it’s not going to wear and get holes like econo Japanese cars I have owned.

I think the cloth seats are very acceptable. I would not be unhappy with them. I really like the way the Midnight Blue leather looks. It looks black unless it’s in sunlight. The light color interior is also very good looking- the dark gray generation one interior was ugly.

Congrats on the second car. They look great together. It should be fun for you and your wife to exchange feedback about each other's experiences. My wife and I have also each ordered a car. We chose EVs which is our preference. Unfortunately in Canada, there is no 2LT for any Bolt or even a 1LT for that matter. Instead, we get an LT which is like a 1LT but with the Driver Confidence Package and Comfort Package built in as standard. The EUV Premiere is also sold here. I don't know why they don't ship the EV 2LT here. It bothers me because that's the car I really wanted. I was wondering if you could tell me your opinion of which car has softer seats and your wife's opinion would be a bonus. I'm hoping to at least gain something for being stuck with one trim level. I've sat in and driven all Bolt models but never cloth vs leather side by side. I always prefer leather but nowadays, leather can sometimes be stiff and the Bolt has a nice fabric as cloth goes. Thanks if you can help.

I wonder why they only build the Bolts to a certain level for the Canadian market? I had a 2017 EV I purchased used, and a 2020 EV I bought new prior to these EUVs. The EV is better in certain respects and the EUV in others, but they are actually extremely similar. Exactly what anyone can expect for the exact same platform with minor differences.

Both seats are extremely comfortable. They feel similar in the firmness, only the texture of the covering and I think cloth has a warmth that leather lacks, and yet stays cooler in hot weather. The premier has the ventilation which it needs. Both EVs I had were premier models without ventilation and they could get sweaty, so you would want to have the newest seats which are an improvement. I know that the seats and general interior are identical in the EV and EUV with their individual differences. The EV has a much longer windshield and so the dash is longer. You are going to love the new infotainment system and the HVAC has been greatly improving from the first generation.

Just be glad you aren’t getting 2017 seats. I was completely turned off by the seats in that car, and I made sure that the 2020 were not the same. They look almost the same but they made the seats more firm, and I think the seat back was reshaped. But the second generation are definitely the best without question.

My wife’s car is not a full 2LT although the window sticker says it is a 2LT. I don’t think the 1LT has roof rails, and her car has the exact same comfort and driver’s packages that are important. I don’t think I would be happy with the base model, the blind-zone and cross traffic are both an important safety feature. An EV without heated seats and steering wheel would be bad even in nice warm California. Might as well ride a motorcycle in Canada if someone wants to freeze 🥶

This was how she got the cloth seats she likes and neither of us particularly cared for the EUV 2LT wheels, so the configuration is almost ideal for her. She would have liked to have the birds eye view but she couldn’t care less about the video mirror.

It’s not ideal that GM decided to stop offering the EV premier and I also think that they are greedy to force the combination of the sunroof and Bose. But I am impressed with the standard sound system TBH. I would probably not get S&S now that I see that the Bose leaves room for improvement and I never really wanted a sunroof at all.

My wife did not like the ACC either and I think it also leaves room for improvement. The lane keep assist is basically worthless for GP but it might alert the driver that they are heading in a wrong direction.

My wife really likes the EUV, she actually likes it more than “her Volt” that got traded in for the first Bolt that she was not impressed by at all, and the seats were the biggest complaint. She didn’t like the passenger seat in the 2020 much either saying it was not comfortable. She loves the power seat with the lumbar adjustment as perfect. She is very happy with either car driver seat and the EUVpassenger side is better, and she is a very good tester for seats being permanently disabled after 6 back surgeries. So if Frances gives the thumbs up to the seats, they are comfortable. I have yet to get uncomfortable in the EUV, so a 22 or 23 EV is going to be the same for the front passengers. The rear seats in the EUV are acceptable for the large adult. Forget anyone but a youngster in the center seat.

And then there are subtle differences like a chrome slash (yuk) and no chrome slash 😀

My wife prefers cloth seats. The cloth is very nice looking for cloth

Image

While I really like the dark blue leather in Bugs

Image

Subtle dash trim and I think I actually like the 2LT better with a seam detail with stitching:

As compared to the perforated premier

So Bugs is my guy

while Fran’s Daffy decal is on order

and that concludes a tale of the 2 EUVs of a very happy family who really love their Bolts and particularly the EUV. And we like Summit White as can be seen. My wife could have chosen something else but she also prefers to have a not-so-hot in the burning sun vehicle to get into.

Thanks for viewing!
