Audiobooks

I listen to audio books in my '23 Bolt EUV, which are downloaded to my iPhone. They don't appear on the AudioBook app on the car. I get them on the phone through either Audible or Libby (for library books). It's not a big issue to select and start the books on my phone, which then play through the car audio, but is there a way for these books to appear on the audio menu? Can Audible and/or Libby be downloaded and played on the infotainment system on the car? I don't have (and don't want) Onstar.

Spotify does not support native playback of Audible books.

However, seems that if you use the Audible app it should work. Audible is compatible with Android Auto, Android Automative Operating System, Apple CarPlay, and the Waze app. You can also use Car Mode in the Audible app for a simplified listening experience.

I listen to audiobooks in both the Audible and Libby apps with CarPlay, and most of the time Libby because library books are free. I have noticed that Libby often does not show the books on the CarPlay screen until I start them on my iPhone.

I don't use anything but CarPlay when I'm driving, but I think you're asking about the separate Audio screen that would show radio and the like? I don't believe it will show anything but Bluetooth audio output. Which works, as you say, but isn't really the app. For that, you'll want CarPlay.

Both Libby and Audible apps are supported in Android Auto and CarPlay. You download the apps to your phone, not the infotainment system.

Audible files were encrypted last time I checked but there are converters. I tend to strip DRM (or find different sources, I always pay, just dislike proprietary playback formats) and play most things through VLC but it doesn't have great controls for audiobooks. Since audiobooks put me to sleep that doesn't matter too much. They're for jet lagged travel lol.

Ah, the joys of audiobooks in the car! While I'm not sure about the direct integration into the car's audio menu, if you're ever in need of a different kind of driving companion, have you considered exploring the world of Bridgerton books? They might add a touch of historical romance to your journeys. Happy listening!

Agree, Libby is priceless ;>)

What is weird is Libby, through our public library, they'll have say, books 1, 3, 5 and 7 in a fifteen book series. So, question is, where/how does one find the missing links in a series?

Also noted, there is a preponderance of female authors. Do guys no longer write books?

Hi Jack (Packard V8), I believe you're a fellow Minnesotan. I get Libby thru the Hennepin County Library System. I am currently reading the latest William Kent Krueger book (another Minnesotan). So I know for certain that guys are still writing! As for links in series books - yeah, it can be a toss up. Not all books are available in audio format. You could see if the particular book you want is in Kindle format.

I'm retired now, but when I was a mail carrier, I always had audiobooks in cassette form going! I had a portable cassette player, and headphones and would listen as I was walking from house to house. We've come along way - now I never actually set foot in the library - I just download it onto my phone. It's magic!

Hey there! For your car, it's worth exploring if there are any updates that could improve compatibility with Audible or Libby. Additionally, you might want to consider checking if there are any alternative apps or methods for playing audiobooks in your car. Audiobooks are a lifesaver for me, too, especially since reading gets tougher with age. I found this tip about audiobooks at https://seniorsbot.com/guide, it has many other useful tips for seniors like me. Give it a look!
