Did this shop run a battery diagnostic test on your pack? If not, they don't know jack about what is going on in your pack. Look at the battery coolant loop reservoir under the hood. It is the one at the center front of the car.

If the coolant isn't within a 1/4" of the fill line, you may have a coolant leak. If you get an OBD II adapter, and Torque pro, you could see if any of your cells are much lower voltage than the others. You can also check SoC variation, and pack impedance. This will give you much of the same information of a dealer diagnostics check.
I looked at the coolant reservoirs and they were all pretty full

Ok, I guess you have a hard time understanding that the burden of proof is on the “plaintiff” (party bringing suit) not the “respondent” (party being sued).
You have that the wrong way around in a case about Warranty. If you argue with GM about it being covered out of court, the burden is on you to make GM agree it is their fault.

Take them to court and you do not need to prove anything. It will help your case if you can show why but it the burden is on them to prove it is your fault. GM has offered a Warranty. They denied the Warranty. THEY MUST PROVE their denial is justified. You do not.

If the buyer had to prove a warranty claim was justified every time then the warranty is useless. What about that do you not understand?

When Can Your Car Dealer Void Your Vehicle's Warranty or Deny Auto Warranty Service Claims? (ncconsumer.org)

"If your engine fails and your warranty claim is denied because you changed the oil yourself, that's not good enough. If they can document that the wrong type of oil was installed, too much or too little oil used, or the oil changes weren't performed according to the maintenance schedule, they may be able to deny the claim and win."

Notice the part about THEY.

You can disagree all you want but please at least show some credible evidence for your opinion. The burden of proof of denial is on the warranty company. Anything you have to show they are wrong will help but not at all required.

Find out the details on what is coming from the OBDII. You can see all sorts of information. If all battery cells have good readings and the pack resistance is normal then it is not the battery.

Also, clear the code and try to charge. There are lots of things you can be doing outside of the dealer. Sadly these are all things people need to learn to not be taken advantage of by dealers. Plenty of stories of things that should be covered under warranty that were charged and paid for by owners simply because they did not know any better.

Great advice. It will cost $33 and some time, but will give you a lot more information that you can use with the next dealership. If it shows that your battery cells are OK, it could save you $20k.

This is one of the problems with the low adoption rate of EVs. In a place like San Francisco, there are a lot of dealerships and probably some independent repair shops familiar with Bolts. In a place like Vera Beach, FL, not so much. I live in Michigan, where GM is headquartered and where the Bolts are assembled, and it's still tough to find any repair shops with expertise in EVs.

If you were in Tulsa with the car I would certainly come by and plug my OBDII in and help. Anyone here in Florida that could help?

I agree.
What did you get for your $136? There should be a print out with codes.

If they just put it up on the lift and pulled away some of the loose plastic covering, took a few pics and said "You need a whole new pack", they're just taking the easy way out.
Some dealerships just don't want to take on EV's and avoid working on them.

Good luck.... (y)

And what if he is an iPhone user? What app should he use then?

What about cold calling the Blue OnStar button and asking them for any fault codes.
Don't give them the long story.
Just say your "Car doesn't run, the Check Engine Light is on. Can you read the fault codes, Please?"

They wrote "needs new hybrid battery due to damage" on their report which reinforces my belief that they have no idea what they are talking about. Can't believe how hard I am getting fucked

They called it a hybrid battery? LMAO!!!

Definately go to another stealership ( oops…was that a typo? NOPE!) and see if they have a COMPENTANT ev tech on staff there.

Something struck/hit the battery. That is a pretty big hole in the plaintiff’s case. He will have to show that it didn’t. Warranties do not cover “accidents”.

Ok so someone tell me if I should just let this car go or try to save it.
I was gonna put it in a storage unit while I try to figure something out but maybe I should just cut my losses and let it go back to the dealership

I don't believe "yet" that there is anything wrong with the car. We finally have a photo of what they claim is the problem. I don't think that dent has anything to do with it. That is the dealers excuse to make you go away or spend $20k on a job you don't need and they will walk with $10k in profit.

We need to see things like this.

I would suggest calling the Bolt EV Consierge and requesting a second opinion at a different dealer. State that you have received advice that the dent may have nothing to do with the system shutdown. See if they will have it towed to the second dealer. It never hurts to ask.

Second opinion on if the dent is the problem.
Second opinion on the need to replace the entire battery, by a Chevrolet dealer authorized to do any Bolt EV repair work.

That is an improvement to your argument but we are talking about a Warranty claim, not a civil action for discrimination or harassment. Those have specific actions that you the plaintiff must prove occurred. For denying a warranty in court they must prove that your actions or inactions absolve them from coverage. Two very different things.

Maybe email the Electrified Garage of Rich Rebuilds fame. Send them the photos and see if they agree with the dealers diagnosis.

That is the way any civil case works, including a suit for wrongful denial of warranty. If the evidence presented shows that an accident has occurred, the defense will immediately move for the case to be dropped, as the warranty will have a clause stating grounds to deny the warranty claim, “Missuse” and “Acts of God” immediately comes to mind. The burden is for the plaintiff to show why the impact which caused the dent has not fallen under the cause for denial clause of the warranty declaration, or the judge will grant the defense’s motion….
