Bolt helped me understand I have favorite gas stations

So I know I always stay on top of my ICE vehicles gas levels. But I always thought I just checked them and planned accordingly.

But since I got the Bolt I've noticed that's only half the story. Because now when I drive by favorite stations (the ones that have top tier gas) I immediately look to see what my current gas level is. And I just kind of giggle to myself and think oh yeah, this one doesn't use gas.

So I'm not sure if I'm checking fuel levels or just waiting until I pass certain stations. But the Bolt sure has changed that when I'm driving it!

Had to get gas for the mower so I thought I would take a pic that just never happens to add to this thread!

Yep. I can attest that battery lawn tools are great in my situation. I started with a battery grass trimmer because I decided managing the electric cord was too much hassle (I had already ditched a gas trimmer). That was quick and easy, so I got a battery lawn mower with 5 amp/h battery, then a blower, then a leaf vacuum/mulcher, then a bush trimmer and finally a chain saw. All have interchangeable batteries, so it's a quick change if I deplete a battery. I have 4 chargers lined up with fully charged batteries ready to go. I'm waiting for the technology to improve before I ditch the gas snow blower!

I think it's getting harder to find stations without "Top Tier" fuel these days. Costco has it, and even Arco. That said, I've never had issues with fuel injectors even when I used the cheap stuff.

Usually I'll wait for the gas light to come on, then I'll use Gas Buddy to see what stations are cheapest. I'll then get fuel within 50 miles of driving.

Those all exist in my driving encyclopedia too. All the gimmicks are just that—ICEs for the past 10 years reached the sophistication of saving as much fuel with the least amount of emissions as possible. This is why the diesel emissions scandal so hurt VW, they didn’t have to resort to such low-life, criminal activity. My days as their customer were numbered, after 40 years of driving nothing but.
It sure feels good to pass the gas stations, and listen to the stories ICE drivers have with each other about fuel prices, performance, repairs. Glad not to be part of that echo chamber any more. Glad to be part of this one. It’s still a challenge to achieve x-part harmony.

After I sell my current ICE I will never pay for "top tier" gas again... if I drive ICE it will be a rental and it will get the cheapest crap I can find :)

I find that I do stop at gas stations once every couple weeks, if I get the urge to get a lottery ticket, or I am on a trip in the Bolt and need something to drink. I can't wait until EV charging stations discover the idea of having a convenience store attached / near by.

I always wanted to pull into a full service gas station and tell the attendant to "fill it up" just to see their reaction!

So you parked at a fuel pump and go inside to buy stuff? Looks like good payback for the ICE folks parking in EV spots. LOL

I miss cleaning my windshield while I pump. Now I have to keep a squeegee and a bucket with soapy water in the garage...

Just keep an eye on the attendant and be prepared to leap out of the car and block him if he gets anywhere near the charge port with the gas nozzle...

Time to junk the ICE mower. I picked up a used Toro twenty years ago for $85 and replaced the batteries once. Will do much more than I ask it.

1. In California we don't have water so no more lawns-- no lawns, no more need for mowers. And I'd rather burn carbohydrates than hydrocarbons, or kilowatts, any way :)
2. Since owning my Bolt I haven't bought gasoline in 2 months. With the savings from owning my new-to-me 2017 (fyi, the power train battery's just fine, thank you) Bolt I'm now able to use the money formerly earmarked for fuel on any number of things that will improve my life, including the ability to afford better-quality food (I'm a music teacher so have to watch everything I spend), UV-proofing such as Astaxanthin, clothing and hats to keep the sun off (I am in the garden for hours a day and it's really hot out there), regular acupuncture treatments that my HMO wouldn't cover, paying bills down more quickly, etc.
3. In north Berkeley we see former ICE customers driving into the Chevron station to fill their EV's tires with air. It's still free to us electrified folks-- so far.....

I had occasion to stop at a gas station the other day. I needed a place to pull off the road so I could look for my destination. The thing I noticed was the stench from the gas and oil. It made me sick to my stomach so my stop was short. I appreciate my Bolt more and more each day. ;)
