I'd have happily paid my dealership to get that update applied. So I'm a bit jealous. ;)
Lol but did they know you would pay regardless? It seems like they think you were trying to get it to go under warranty.

I started noticing something in fall of 2020, but intermittent. Then it by December it was easily reproducible, even when just unlocking the car

This is a mindset I have never agreed with. I buy all my groceries from Kroger. I don't go in there and ask for free groceries just because I always shop there. Whether you like the dealership business model or not, they don't decide what is covered or not. GM does.
I hear your point but your comparable is unfair.

Anyhow, I came from Acura many years before. I was forever waiting for them to release an EV but they rather wait for the market to mature. My Acura dealer was awesome. Every oil change my car was washed and vacuumed. While the car was out of warranty, I've had a couple instances where they noticed something weird, like a part that was leaking when it normally never does and they got it worked out for me and "included" no problem (I would've been in on a service anyhow)
I remember them replacing a battery I bought from them that was past warranty. Gave me the benefit of the doubt that I didn't drain it or something.
I felt they were transparent and honest with me. The GM dealer I'm at had a totally different feel... Yes they are trying hard at good customer service, smiles, follow up calls, surveys... but it doesn't feel natural, kinda forced, they seem very guarded.
Well they are older at GM whereas the Acura people I dealt with were younger.

I want a big EV to replace my Enclave. While I liked my sales rep and the Bolt, I doubt I'll end up with a GM.

I got my high voltage recall and ibooster done on Tuesday. Charged me an hour for the ibooster. I did protest in the weeks before when I made the booking but they said GM Canada didn't make it a recall so it's not covered.
My 2017 is outside the 3 year warranty and my extended warranty doesn't cover this.... but would have to pay a deductible anyhow.
The dealership could've chose to eat the cost themselves as I bought my enclave and bolt from them and perform all servicing with them.

I get that the service dept needs to make their money somehow, but a software update to correct a known problem doesn't feel like the right way.

I don't know if I have the energy to fight this lol
I had a similar experience today. So I didn't fight it at all, just wanted to get it over with. But they argued that it was not in warranty, so it's a paid effort. At the end of the day, $150 is way better than an entirely new brake booster.

I do not understand how GM and their dealerships can charge owners for the defective i Bosch Brake Module Problems. This has been an ongoing problem for many many owners and a corporate recall should have been done.
Don't blame the dealership in this case. The dealers simply have to play by GM's rules. Unless the dealer wants to eat the cost directly (which is a tough ask of any business), there is nothing they can do.

I wouldn't be totally surprised if either a warranty extension for this problem (also known as a special coverage) or a recall were issued at some point. Hang on to those receipts just in case.

GM's claim is that it's not a safety issue, and the iBooster isn't "broken" because the fix is not to replace it. It's a software update for a convenience / annoyance issue.

I prefer Tesla's business model where software updates are generally included, except for new features (and even those are included sometimes). However, it doesn't surprise me that different EV manufacturers are taking different approaches to software updates. The EV market isn't large / mature enough for competition to force everyone to converge on a single, most profitable business model.

Hey,

So I recently noticed that my car was making a clicking sound when I opened the doors. No, it's not the lock. It's not the shift lockout. It makes a series of clicks up under the dash. When I first noticed it, I posted a video where you could hear it and a helpful poster (on FB) thought it might be one of the three HVAC actuators. For the record, it might click 5-6 times, but sometimes it goes 20-30 before stopping.

I took it over to my local dealer and they told me it was actually the 'brake actuator'. When describing the symptoms to them originally, I had only noticed that morning that the clicks always stopped when you put your foot on the brake. The service guy told me that GM was aware of the issue with the brake actuator and no solution was yet available. According to the service guy, this is harmless. I never consider an issue with the brakes 'harmless'. If the actuator is rotating needlessly or whatever it controls is slamming against the stops repeatedly, this will eventually lead to a failure of some sort -- again, this is the ABS brake system so is that failure catastrophic?

Does anyone else notice a clicking sound in or under the dash when you enter your Bolt (even from passenger side, or rear hatch, with key fob)? Did GM diagnose your issue? Did they provide a solution? The service guy mentioned a bulletin on it but did not give me a number or other identifying information so I could track it. So I don't really have a way to track GM's progress on a solution.

Anyone else have a Bolt that talks to them when they open the doors or hatch? Thanks in advance
I have a '19 premier, 9k miles. Chugging or clicking under dash for a second or two when opening a door. Also occasional parking brake grunting when parking. I'm terrified to take the car to Chevy, as they could replace my 330 mile charge battery with a regular one.
Anybody?

Clicking sound when you open a door definitely sounds like the brake actuator. My dealer performed the software update on 2018 a few months ago, so far so good. As for the battery issue......that is another story.

Regarding this issue that I've now noticed on my 2019 premier with 200 miles... You can actually gently press the lowermost edge of the booster (right next to the 2-wire connector) and the noise will go away. Upon releasing, the noise will return. Not sure what the software update does for something like that. Maybe they disable the pump until the car is not in PARK... just guessing.

This iBooster clicking has been explained somewhere as the brake booster performing a self test. In my experience the clicking is more frequent in cooler weather. Here in Orlando this summer the clicking has totally stopped, but it a few months it will resume as it did last winter. My guess is there are some component(s) in the system are made of materials that effected by temperature changes more than expected, resulting in system self calibration problems. A firmware fix might, for example, widen a tolerance for initial position calibration.

I ha d the same thing on my 2021 Bolt with only 4 months and 2800 miles on it.
No only happens roughly speaking one out of every 25 times I open the door praying so I’m reluctant to take it to the dealer because (a) It'lprobably refused to do it while at the dealer. (b) as Yeah seemed indicate the dealer is unlikely to be willing or able to do anything about it at the present time.

If anyone knows an official reference note regarding this it would be nice to have that in my pocket for future use.

This was covered on my '19 under warranty. It's a software issue.

Mine just was replaced, under warranty. I Booster Bosch Brake Module, now quiet vehicle with no more low thumping sound at rest.
GM Bolt Central is well aware of this problem; dealers not so much.
Hey, Captiva…
Would there be any way you could email me a copy of your service bill?
i'm well inside warranty, but having in text that mine (I have the syndrome mention at start of this topic ...odd almost grinding noise sometimes when opening door) is not an imaginary problem, and there is an official fix, and what it consists of, could greatly save confusion and delays in getting it addressed at my local Chevy.
could be very helpful.

I do not have a copy of the service invoice , but you should not need it. There is a software update for all years of the Bosch Brake Module Clicking noise problem. Contact your dealer, it is well known now.

One of the corollaries to Murphy's Law is that service departments can never, ever see intermittent problems. So it's useless to have them try to diagnose it, instead wait until the problem worsens to the point where it can't be missed.

What I finally did, is to make an audible download on my iPhone, for 3 minutes.
That did the trick…

New user here. Just wanted to share that my 2018 Bolt, 11000 miles started making that annoying tapping noise about 2 weeks ago. Thanks to this thread I knew what to tell the dealer, and the issue was resolved with software update based on the bulletin. Thank you all!
I would also like to thank this thread 2017 and now with a new battery! However I was charged a 1 hour labor charge, $140 with tax. I was absolutely fine with it. I figured I was the one that had made out of the deal.
