Mine has been ticking for months. Even does it while driving sometimes.
QUESTIONS for all following this thread who have actually experienced this symptom/problem personally on a Bolt:

1) How long and how often, and any description. And year and miles of your Bolt
2) Have you tried to get Chevy (dealer service dept or other) to address it?
(if not skip to question 4.)
3) If so, what was the outcome? Was it resolved? How much of a hassle did you have? What did it cost, if anything? Any tips based on your experience?
4) If not, do you plan to Try to get a resolution from Chevy or any other way?

My own responses are as follows:
1) 2021, 5000 miles. Mine makes what I suspect to be brake actuator sound .. almost but nor quiet a grinding sound…duration about one full second…seeming to come from somewhere under the front hood.
It does it mostly When opening the door to enter car after being parked for a while.
I would say it happens about one every 25 times, but obviously not evenly and predictably spaced in time. And this happens may be a total of 12 times in the seven months and 5000 miles I‘ve owned the Bolt.
2 Not yet.
3) NA
4) Yes.

Mine just ticks at random. If i open any door or the hatch or when i plug it in to charge and when i unplug it. Sometimes when i am cleaning the outside it starts to tick. Sometimes when i am driving it ticks but sounds like a diff kind of tick. Sometimes it ticks for over 1 min when i open the door and sometimes only 20 secs. It is a 2020 and now has 2700 miles. I hate going to dealers so i have not tried to have the car looked at. I plan nothing at this time as the car has been fine

I don't eve plan to get the new batt installed since the car works fine as it. I hate going to dealers. Once a car gives me trouble i just get rid of it and many times i buy 3 to 5 cars a year. I would go back to a C8 Vette if gas prices would ever go back to under $3 a gal for prem and stay there for 3 years. As it is i am happy with the Bolt and love not buying gas. But once it F's up i will get rid of it. Got it last March due to gas prices and traded a 2021 Camaro that got 8mpg once gas prices went to $3.75 a gal for prem.

This was fixed for me while they had my Bolt for the battery replacement. It's a software update to the Brake Booster Control Module. The noise is gone.
Thanks John.
If you have a record of that…such as maybe a reference to a specific update designation lr number, and would share it (photo, just a note, or whatever) that might save me a go around at my service department in case my service manager isn't up to speed. Can do?

BTW… What year is your Bolt?

I have a white 2019 Premier.

Here is the Chevy service bulletin #20-NA-170:

Update after almost a year with this annoying ticking/clicking noise:
1) I ended up by replacing the iBooster two times, both times with a used one. I did everything by myself. If you need advices for the replacement I'll be glad to help you.
2) I disassembled the original iBooster to inspect what was wrong with the internals. Mechanically everything looks in perfect condition, no signs of wear of any of gears. So definitely the attached electronics or the attached position sensor failed. You can change this sensor but to do that anyway to have to remove the full brake booster first to gain access to it.
Hello: Great post and thank. The Bolt and the Volt apparently use the exact same system and my 2017 volt has the exact same problem so before I spend $200...on a 2016 Chevrolet Chevy Volt Brake Booster Master Cylinder 84006919 and you found it is only the 'sensor', can you tell me where/how to purchase the sensor...like with the part numbeer/cost, etc. if you have it.
thanks. the dealer wants $2100 to fix it...

It is the Bosch i-Boost power assist unit for the brakes. There is a tooth broken out of the gear rack on the side of the master cylinder unit. I don't know how unsafe it is, but it is broken and should be replaced under warranty. Your dealer is incompetent. Call GM!
The clicking on mine appears not to be a broken gear, the sound is much too fast, perhaps 10x a second. Others reporting some sort of electronic actuator....sensor. did you actually see a broken gear?
Thanks

Sorry. That post is way out of date. The problem has a software fix. It is not a hardware problem. Do not replace the i-booster!

thanks Yes, I saw it.
Here's the problem I face.
The Bolt and the Volt appear to use the exact same booster.

My 2017 Volt is at the dealer. I gave them a copy of the 20 NA-170 you kindly had on the Bolt forum and the service rep gave it to the Volt/Bolt tech who told the service rep, 'this is for the Bolt only'..."the software will not allow an install of this 'fix' on his Volt". It looks like Chevy is taking care of Bolt (still active vehicles being made) and use the Volt issue to allow $$$ to be made by the dealers..
In my research, I found five or six different OEM part numbers for the Boosters, four of which are claimed useable and valid for our 2017 Volt (84493683, 8466915984006919 and 84493683 (for a 2019 Volt).
I was very concerned about 'what happens if the part goes bad after the 12 month warranty, another $2,100.00?
the OEM price for the 84669159 on www.gmpartscorp.com is $1,031.45 (which I would imagine is what the dealers charge as part of the $2,100 total repair cost).
I have repeated calls in to the Chevy dealer service rep but he isn't returning my calls. Yesterday he told me it would cost $175 for the tech to do an analysis. I told him to do it....
I am looking at picking up the Volt asap and exploring other options.

There is probably something more current, but this is the first thing I saw.

I took this to my dealer on Monday when I was having the battery software update done, they verified and completed the software update and now no more clicking noise. They also said normally they charge $149+tax for software updates on TSBs but with the battery issues, as a customer satisfaction adjustment they only charged $60+ tax for this. I was happy about that.

Never went yet. I hate going to dealers.
Well if the noise does not bother you, it does no harm anyway so it’s entirely up to you if you want to get it fixed.
But if my car was still under the bumper to bumper warranty I would get it taken care of anyway, but that is just me, noises like that in an otherwise quiet car drive me nuts LOL.

It's got 6 years of a B TO B warranty. I will get it there one day. Been too busy buying telescopes on the weekends. 9 scopes in 4 weeks.
