First off, were you looking at the max range figure on the upper left DIC display? Are you charging in a warm climate or heated garage?

 

I was looking on the upper left DIC display and was charging it in an attached garage. The garage isn't heated, but stays in the 50's due to heat that transfers in from the house.

 

 

So that range number is an estimation, based on several factors, largely your driving efficiency. The capacity of the battery itself is only tangential to the number shown there, in that it multiplies your average efficiency (miles/kWh) by the amount of charge present.

Congratulations! It means you're driving more efficiently than expected by the engineers/EPA testing.

 

That makes sense as I do drive with efficiency in mind. Thanks for the quick and logical answer. I can now sleep without worrying about my battery!

 

Congratulations, you are a very efficient driver. The “Guess-O-Meter” displays the projected range based on you recent driving style and HVAC use. Go out there and “lead foot” it and crank up that HVAC, or drive in cold weather, and the mileage will drop precipitously. Remember, it is just a guess based on recent behavior. The number of bars displayed are the actual state of charge. It is just like gas mileage in a gas car: the number of gallons in a full tank of gas stays the same, but how far it takes you depends on your driving.

Once, after an extremely efficient drive, I was able to max out the GOM's center number at 599 km (372 miles) after a full charge. The number won't go any higher due to software limitations. The drive in question lasted 624 km (388 miles) on a single charge, but apparently Bolt's engineers thought the car would never realistically be that efficient.

This is a personal curiosity / pet peeve of mine about Bolt’s GOM number. On multiple occasions and tests, I drove my car in such way that the GOM’s middle number would be able to go past 599 kilometers - e.g. drive steep downhill when it’s already past 590. However, it always maxes out at 599...

624km (388 miles) on a single charge - highway driving

I mentioned this on another thread, but here's part 1 of the video about it. In a nutshell, I attempted to drive 624km or 388 miles on a single charge while driving mostly on expressways (highways). The video concerns the first half of the leg, where I spent 49.8% of the battery to go 311.9km...

In any case, yeah... GOM isn't something you should infer the battery's condition from.

 

People need to read and understand what physics does to range and understand that range number is an estimate(EV OR ICE) before jumping to conclusions that their car is bad. . I guess people never cared about their range in an ICE vehicle. But jump into an EV and that's the only number people care about.

People do and did care about their range in ICEV: the mpg was the most important thing when buying an ICEV 20 years ago and is still the same nowadays. They only don't corelate the mpg to mi/kWh in an EV.

 

When I bought my 2022 Chev Bolt EV in August 2002 my range was around Max 399 Min 299 Centre 350.
On September 09, 2022 it was Max 395km Min 273km Centre 334km. Picture attached
Now on November 30, 2022 it is Max 394km Min 200km Centre 245km. Picture attached
After driving 148.2 KM it is down to Max 94 km Min 64 km Centre 79km. Picture attached
That to me equal maybe 200km or 124 miles

I know that this is an estimate on driving habits and so on, but since I bought the car I drive the same route daily give or take. The cruse control is set to 115 km per hour at least 80% of the time and it is mostly highway driving. I always use regen braking also.
I use the Departure Time Option, so the car completes charging close to the time I leave for work and the battery is roughly at its proper operating temperature and now with the colder temperature and my garage is at least 10C

I even remote start the car 20 minutes with the car still plugged in before leaving in the morning as mentioned in the manual. The car is also parked in underground parking at work so it is not out in the weather and the garage is warm.

I have always had the charging set to 95% .
I know that the car was in a learning curve but if it keeps learning much more driving to corner store and back maybe all the distance I have.
The point I am trying to make sense that when I bought the car was around 340-350 km and now it is down to 245 km.

I am going to the dealer to see what they have to say.

Duplicate threads drive people away from sites like this. Nearly every day the Bolt Facebook page is filled with GOM discussions and it drives folks away. Sometimes, responses are less civil, along the lines of RTFM. After a short time, experienced members tire of repeating the same answers, and lose interest due to a lack of diverse topics.

We get it, new owners have questions about the GOM. That is why we put the effort into answering the questions. If folks refuse to use these resources, it brings into question why bother? It is a two way street, keeping 17K+ members engaged vs tolerating the repeated questions from folks who seemingly refuse to read the resources we provide already, and direct them to when joining. I hope new members are not offended or intimidated by this policy, but please understand why we limit this topic.

All new members get a welcome message, and this includes a link to the GOM discussion as well as urging them to read sticky threads in a few areas to avoid asking the common questions. We don't want to be known as the only place on the web to ask GOM questions, there are so many more interesting topics to engage in.
